Hi, I'm Hatsuho
I am a Japanese-American mother of two.
About Me
I am a mother to two energetic young children and wife to one hard-working and handsome husband. I grew up in the United States and Japan. I am passionate about making sure my children learn Japanese while they are young. I have worked as an elementary school teacher. I currently teach English to Japanese people living in the United States. I enjoy reading blogs about motherhood, cooking, and design, playing the piano and cello (but not as frequently as I should), spending time with my friends, baking treats, and spending quality time with my family.
Why I am a Mormon
My parents are both converts to this church. My dad joined when he was 14, and my mom in her 20's, so I was raised in the LDS church. Being LDS growing up helped me to learn the basics of the gospel (praying, reading scriptures, keeping the commandments, etc) at a young age and avoid activities like drugs, alcohol, dishonesty, etc.
During my college years, my love for the Savior became very strong and I served a 19-month long mission to share my testimony with others. During that experience, I felt very close to Heavenly Father and learned that the gospel is not just good, but real. I interacted and served people of many different economic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds and learned to love them all. I saw firsthand how the gospel of Jesus Christ brings happiness and a better quality of life to people.
I have had times in my life when I've questioned some aspects of the church and struggled with understanding how the church fits in with the rest of the world. Through study and prayer, my understanding of the greatness of God has increased. There are so many different people living on the Earth believing so many different things.... and I believe God loves every one of them and wants us all to be happy and succeed in this life. He wants us to love and serve one another.
I choose to be a member of this church because I believe it teaches the most truths. I have felt the Spirit confirm to me again and again the simple truths of the gospel. I have seen countless miracles in my life. By living the gospel, I feel peace and have a greater understanding of God and our purpose here on the Earth. It is a wonderful church for strengthening and supporting families. There are many opportunities to serve and grow. I love that we don't have paid positions in our church- everyone serves together and somehow, it works! I love the friends that I have in the church- some of the smartest, most charitable, and open-minded people I know. Could go on, but I'm out of room!
How I live my faith
Our family prays together daily to thank God for our blessings and we attend church together every Sunday. I serve in my local congregation as a leader over the primary (children). I try to plan activities and lessons for the children that will help them gain a testimony and love for Jesus Christ and His gospel. I strive to be a trustworthy and compassionate friend and neighbor, am always thinking of ways to strengthen my family, and try to be a good citizen of the United States.
