About Me

Yo! My name is Steve, I am currently serving a mission in Australia for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I graduated High School in 2008, I participated in a lot of Music programs, I love music. I play Guitar, Double Bass, and I love to sing. I played in a chirstian punk band for a little while during highschool, that was heaps of fun and a great experience. I am fascinated by history and literature and one day hope to be a teacher of these subjects after I finish my mission and attend University.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, my name is Stephen, some people call me Steve, there are many reasons why I am a Mormon, I grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since I was a kid, my parents joined the church prior to me being born. Some people would tell me that the reason I'm a mormon is simply because my parents were members and I grew up in this church. But just like anyone else I had to learn for myself that this church was true. One experience in particular I would like to share with you, I was around 13 or 14 while my older brother was on his mission. I didn't really like going to church in fact I used to think of reasons why I could skip each sunday. But when my brother arrived home from his mission I saw such a drastic change in his character. He looked happy, he looked like he was completely satisfied with the person he was and that he had a purpose or direction for his life. I remember thinking "man...what does this dude got that I don't have?" He took me out on some of his church assignments visiting members of the church or offering service and while we were doing these assignments he would tell me about his mission, and his conversion the reason he was a Mormon, that was all cool and stuff but the whole thing just didn't seem real to me personally. I remember telling him that I didn't want to go on a mission and that I wasn't even sure if The Church was true, he challenged me to read The Book of Mormon and ask God if it is true. The same time he asked me to do that our Prophet at the time Gordon B. Hinckley gave the membership of the church worldwide a challenge to finish the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. It was late December and I wasn't quite on track to finishing it before the end of the year. So I pulled over in a park one day and read a huge chunk of the Book for like 2 hours, I finished it and I received an answer through prayer that it was true. I knew from then on and now that the Book of Mormon was true and that the Church of Jesus Christ is the Lord's Kingdom on earth. I have seen many miracles since then that have further convinced me that everything that we teach is real. God loves us and we are a part of his great plan!

How I live my faith

Well at the moment the way I'd say I live my faith is through my mission. Since June 2009 until now and until July this year I have been spending my life teaching people in Australia about our church, The Book of Mormon, and how it blesses our lives and our families lives forever. We do service, we knock on doors, we teach people of all backgrounds about God's love for them, and his plan for us. In the past before this I participated in teaching children the basics of our church in Sunday School. I also participated in a program that produces food for those who may otherwise be struggling to find their own. I also partcipated in a program that allowed all of us church members to visit one another to check up and offer service each month to each other if we were in need. All of these programs of the church, that I have participated in, especially my mission in Australia have richly blessed my life and I am a better person for it. I have learned to love people of all sorts and really appreciate what God has given us, his children.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Many of God's children on the Earth never have the opportunity to learn about The Gospel of Jesus Christ, but Jesus's Christ's gospel is for absolutely everyone who ever has, is, or will live. So we do proxy baptisms so that those who have passed away and never had the chance to learn about Jesus Christ's true church still have that choice and opportunity to follow Jesus Christ the way he intended us to.

We have a loving Father in Heaven, whose work and glory are to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. He is our Father, and wants each and every one of us to return to him. Some of His children never had the opportunity to receive the blessings of the gospel and be baptized in their lifetime. Because our Father loves all of His children, each will have the opportunity to accept the gospel, even if it is taught to them after this life. We do baptisms in the temple by proxy so that those who did not have the opportunity in this life to be baptized into the church may receive this ordinance if they desire it.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Definitely! In fact, it is hard for me to imagine the world without them. We live in difficult times with wars, economic uncertainty, and just issues and questions that are unique to our generation. Prophets are able to speak with God and relay critical guidance to us that help us to always know what God would have us do.

I believe God loved His children enough in the 'old' days to send His prophets to guide and teach them. He is unchanging, and loves us equally and continues to always have His prophets give us instructions that pertain to our generation.
