About Me

I am a true Arizona girl. My family moved to Arizona generations ago as pioneers and established a legacy that will extend for generations. I have two college degrees with straight A's. I am a devoted wife, married to my best friend now for 15 years. Together, we have 5 beautiful daughters. I love to read and to cook, but my dreams are to travel the globe with my husband.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up as a member of the church in a family who has been part of the church for generations has blessed my life beyond measure. I was fortunate to have gained a testimony at a young age and it has been a guiding light for me throughout my life. Reading the stories of my ancestors who sacrificed everything in crossing the plains renews my spirit and fills my heart. Knowing personally that God has a plan for me and my family gives me peace and comfort in this world filled with so much anger, hate and confusion. That God sent His Son to die for us and then to live again so that we can live again is the greatest gift we could ever have.

Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?

Family history work is a way that we can learn more about ourselves by learning about our ancestors. As members of the church we have been asked to search out our families through all the generations. This is an important part of God's work. Everyone needs an opportunity to accept Christ and his gospel. By doing this work we can ensure that our families can be linked together througout all time. Then through God's plan, we can make covenants that can bind our families for eternity.

In searching out my ancestors, I came to learn about one woman in particular. She was my great-great-great Grandmother. She was a valiant leader during the early days of the pioneers. She had great losses, but her beliefs never faltered. Reading her testimony or beliefs as she wrote them in her own words of the truthfulness of this church and of her experiences in meeting the Prophet Joseph Smith personally has strengthened my life and my family.

How I live my faith

I love the purity and innocence of little children. I am blessed to be able to be involved in teaching the little children at our church. Helping them to learn the teachings of Jesus and how to follow in his footsteps has been a marvelous experience. We talk of Him and sing of Him and feel His love.

Latter-day Saints are all expected to generously give of their time to serve in the church. Service opportunities vary greatly and can include being a congregation's pastor, teaching classes, helping congregants gain employment, or helping watch toddlers in the nursery. These volunteer opportunities are temporary and Mormons often gain a wide variety of experiences throughout their lifetimes. Specific assignments are not sought after, but rather delegated out to a congregation's members after those presiding over the congregation have prayed over the matter.

No one participating in this service is compensated financially, as we all are personally committed to help one another and assist in the church's growth. I believe that this way of organizing a church is ideal because it allows congregants to become closely acquainted with one another through service, frees up funds given to the church to go to more important projects such as building chapels and advancing missionary efforts, and greatly reduces any potential for corruption in the church by removing financial incentives.

A ward or branch is the local unit of the church. This is the place where members have the opportunity to develop friendships and to help one another. We get support and lessons on the scriptures and how to improve our family relationships.

Our Heavenly Father expects us to lift and serve one another in this life. This is the principle behind a volunteer clergy. The local leader of a ward or branch calls on various members on the ward/branch to volunteer their services in teaching and leading the other members. We all donate our time and thus are able to lift and serve on another. The leaders seek divine guidance in making these callings. We who have been called to also seek divine guidance in fulfilling our positions.

We each try to follow the teachings of an ancient prophet who taught that when we are baptized we "are willing to bear one another's burdens, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort." (Book of Mormon, Mosiah 18:8-9).

Through our volunteer service, members lift one another's burdens and express our love to one another.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

As a primary president in my ward, I share in the direction and leadership of our ward. I don't feel secondary in any way. Whether you have the priesthood or not, you are still responsible to listen to the direction of the Savior. The priesthood is a tool and power that is the same power of the Savior. It allows the human authority to do work on earth, particularly perform ordinances, and bless others. As if the Savior was here in person during His ministry accounted for in the New Testament. I would use an analogy to compare the priesthood as a car. A car is an amazing tool allowing you to get you from here to there. I don't mind my husband driving and I can offer some navigation or work the radio, as long as we and our children get there.
