Hi, I'm Brett Jones
Im from California, I love fishing, playing sports and can't wait to be a husband and father someday. Im a Mormon.
About Me
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have been attending the Mormon church my whole life. I was baptized and confirmed a member when I was 8 years old. I enjoy playing sports, especially basketball. As a young man I participated in martial arts, achieving the rank of black belt. I am a Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. I love the outdoors! Going camping and fishing with my family and friends is always one of the things I look forward to the most every summer. I am engaged to a beautiful and amazing woman and will be sealed to her this summer in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.
Why I am a Mormon
I have always thought of it as a blessing to have had the restored gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in my life since such a young age. I really dont think that I would be a very religious person if I was not a member of the Mormon church. Im sure that I would still believe in God and try to live a good life but I am someone who needs to know the answers to everything and I need a detailed explanation of why it is that way. The Gospel truths of the church answer all of my questions and needs, even those that other religions dont have the answers to. It makes sense to me and I am always learning new things that are helping me to improve my life. I feel the Spirit and close to God and my Savior Jesus Christ as I do the things the Lord commands and follow the teachings of our living Prophet. It is a comfort to me and gives me much hope knowing that there is a living Prophet on earth today, that leads and guides Gods children according to the direction God gives him. The best part of it all is that you can trust him and know that he will not lie or lead you down a wrong path. You can always bank on the Prophet.
Personal Stories
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
Just as every other member of the church that has a testimony of the Book of Mormon, I too had to read and pray about the message it contains to gain my own testimony. I remember back on my high school days as a young man, I had read the Book of Mormom a couple of times but hadn't yet received a witness that it was true. It eventually came to the point that I really wanted to know if it was the word of God, so I set a goal to read it again more carefully and diligently. I finished the book, completing my goal and felt good about having acomplished it. I stayed up late after finishing it and reflected on the importance it has in my life and where my life would be heading in the next few years to come. I prayed and asked God if the Book of Mormon was true and if Joseph Smith was actually a Prophet, the Prophet who translated it. I received an answer convincing to me that yes the Book of Mormon is the word of God, more sacred scripture that the Lord revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith for the benefit of mankind, that was written by his holy Prophets here on the american continent. I felt good inside as the Holy Ghost filled my heart with this knowledge and when I read the Book of Mormon now I can always feel this warm feeling of the spirit which brings me closer to my Heavenly Father reconfirms that testimony I gained.
How I live my faith
When I turned 19 years old I stopped all that I was doing in my life and I chose to serve a fulltime mission for the church. I was called to the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission where I just recently completed two years of service to God, my fellowmen and where i learned remarkable life lessons. I enjoy serving and helping others out, it gives meaning to my life and it teaches me to be unselfish. I attend church every sunday where I participate in gospel classes and learning. I regularly study scriptures from the Bible and Book of Mormon which uplift me and help me to better undertsand Gods plan for me in my life.
