Hi, I'm Tyler
I'm a Twin, i love the outdoors, I love being in Minnesota, and i'm a Mormon.
About Me
I grew up in Idaho with two brothers and two sisters, one brother being my twin. We are all very close in age and as friends. My brother and I are always out in the mountains hunting or snowboarding. I really enjoy hunting mule deer and other big game found in Idaho. If we aren’t in the mountains you can catch us in the canyon rock climbing or repelling into caves, we just do what ever to have fun. I am very lucky to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have two amazing parents who have done so much for me and who have helped me become the person I am today. I'm very lucky to be a part of such a great family. The gospel has brought so much joy and love into our family. My goal is to become a Chiropractor so that I can help people. But as of now I am a serving a mission in Minnesota with 200 of the best young men and women in the world
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because of certain things that have happened in my life that has shown me the authenticity of this church. I grew up in the Church; I attended every Sunday with my family. I knew nothing different and really didn’t care. But there comes a time in everyone’s life where they need to get on their knees and ask God if something is true. I wouldn’t do that for the longest time. Then it all changes when I was in my eighth grade year of school.
We had a great year in football and things were looking good for us the next year. I did very well in school and I got my black belt in Taekwondo. I had everything I wanted and nothing could interfere with my life, or so I thought. My brother and I were sitting around watching TV one day when my mom came and sat and started talking with us. We were just talking like we usually do and finally she said “So I have something to tell you.” We listened and she continued, “I found out what has been causing all these headaches and why I’m going blind in my right eye. I have a brain tumor on my pituitary gland”. We were both in shock; we had no idea what to think. One way our family deals with shock or with any traumatic event is we joke, so that’s what we did. After a few jokes things were better, at least on the outside, on the inside I was being crushed for the first time in my life with fear. That night I went and got on my knees and prayed for my mom to make it through the surgery alive and well. Eventually the time came for her to get surgery. We all waited for the call from dad to tell us how it went. The surgery was a success. It was like a huge weight was lifted off of my chest. Things were back to normal.
A couple of years went by and she was all healed up. We had another good foot ball year and then I entered High School. I was a sophomore and I had a really good year. We did well in football again and in baseball. Everything was working out. Another bonus was that the girls were noticing us so we had another thing on our plates. My junior year came along and I made varsity football and was on my way to making varsity baseball. When football season was over I went and started getting ready for baseball. We had winter camps to get us into baseball shape. One day I came home and was completely exhausted and I came in and sat next to my twin and started to relax. My mom came in and asked how practice was and we started to talk again. She then said I have something to tell you both. She then said “Its back.” We were both kind of looked at her confused. She saw the confusion on our faces and said “The tumor is back.” That sentenced knocked the wind out of me. She told us it was growing twice as fast. She then said,” while they were checking everything they found out that I have Thyroid cancer. That was another hit to the chest. After we said a couple more jokes and mad everything better she left. My brother and I didn’t talk.
Later that night I fell to my knees begging with my father in heaven to heal her. Nothing happened at first. In fact I just went to bed. A couple of weeks went by and baseball season started up. I made the varsity team and we were having a great year. My mom and the tumor were always there in the back of my mind though. I didn’t want anyone to know so I didn’t tell anyone. One day my coach came to me and said he wanted to talk to me after practice. So after practice I met him in the dugout and we started to talk. He told me that my mom had called him and informed him of everything that was going on. He then asked if there was anything that he could do to help and I said no. Soon the whole team knew. That was a blessing they helped me through a really hard time in my life. The season ended and the surgery was approaching fast. I still hadn’t got my answer.
It was the week before surgery and we gathered as a family to have my dad give my mom a blessing. I had heard and seen a lot of blessings but I had never listened like I did this time. To my surprise though my older brother stepped forward and helped. I forgot that he had got the priesthood to prepare him to serve a mission. This was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The spirit entered the room and we were all reassured that mom was going to be alright. When the prayer was over there wasn’t a dry face in the room. I had got my answer. I knew that it was true. I knew that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and that he restored the true church of Christ on the earth again. I knew that the Book of Mormon was true. She went into surgery the next week and the surgeons did an amazing job. She is now fully recovered and cancer free. I know that this church is true and that it is a church of miracles. I know that the current Prophet Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God for our times. I leaves this with you in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Personal Stories
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost has saved my life more than once. One story that sticks out in my head happened a couple of months before I went on my mission. My twin brother and I were watching a basketball game on TV and it was about 9:00 p.m. and everyone else had gone to bed because they all had to get up early the next morning. As I was watching the game something told me to look outside, so I did and quickly started watching the game again. After I did this something said "no look outside". This time I looked and it looked like there was a light flashing on our garage. We had people come over to our house all the time so I thought someone was just pulling in, so I looked out the garage and there was no one around. I got a sick feeling in my gut and I ran outside to see the side or our garage up in flames. The flames were going about 40 feet into the air and I panicked. I ran inside and yelled at my brother while I was calling 911 and he went outside and started to fight the fire. Soon as my parents and other siblings were awake we were all outside. My brother and I had already been fighting the fire before everyone was out. We had some people stop and help us out and we finally got it out but it got into the attic. We hurried and started to pull all the cars out of the garage. One of them had a dead battery so we pushed that out. Soon as all the cars were out, I started to grab some big tanks and take them out and put them on the grass. My brother and I each grabbed one and then, when we got them out of the way, we asked them what they were. He quickly said propane tanks and we were moving things again. We had over 125 gallons of propane next to the wall that was on fire. It was only 6 inches from the flames. If the spirit had not told me to look outside the whole house would have blown up. I'm so grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost and how it has blessed my life.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by going to Church every Sunday. I helped organize fun activities for the ward i was attending. As of now i am on a mission in Minnesota and am serving the Lord and representing his Church. I get to wear his name on my chest every day for two years.
