I came from a family of 4 sisters and 1 brother. I am 5th in that line. I grew up being outdoors most of my life. Backpacking, hiking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, canyoneering, etc. I love the Mountains. They are sort of my place to find solace and peace. A place to re-charge. I also love the freedom sky-diving. What a wonderful feeling. I love a good rope swing, or a bridge, or even a rock wall that I can jump off into a deep enough pocket of water. I just enjoy pushing past the physical limitations of my fear. I love playing all sports summer, winter, or water. No difference so long as I am having fun. Enjoy watching a baseball game at the local college with my buddies and rooting for the team. I am an Eagle Scout. Learned a lot from that program that prepared me for future events in life that have and will occur. I have hiked, rock climbed, camped, canyoneered, etc. in every state north and south of Colorado heading west, minus New Mexico as well as a few other countries. I have completed the West Coast Trail with my family, and I have hiked 26, of the 52, 14,000+ft mountains located in Colorado, backpacked through rain forests, biked around the San Juan islands, trekked through the Paria Canyon. Nature is one of God's creations that I just can't ignore. I love it!
Why am I Mormon? That took me time to understand and know for myself. However, I came to a surety that it was correct. In my attempts to know, I questioned things. Even myself. What allowed me to receive my answer that this gospel contained the fullness, was when I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it. Asking if it be right. I came to the realization, that I had always known, but that I had simply needed to really ask for myself to confim it by the answer I recieved. In my life that the Lord has proven his presence and his role in my eternal happiness. There were even times where I had close calls with serious injury, or death. I have no doubt that after a 65 ft freefall of a rock face and not only surviving, but to only have a shattered ankle with a bruised pelvis and back, a miracle from God. He has kept me alive for a purpose. As I continue to attend church, read my scriptures, and study, I begin to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ more clearly and my purpose here on Earth. It took time and effort in my progression. My motivation comes from God and my change of perception to a new understanding. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and is aware of my needs, that he will provide for my needs as long as I am obedient and doing my best. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and that it contains truth and power. Power that can calm your soul and heal your heart. Take stress from your day and bring happiness to your life. This gospel means the everything to me.
It is interesting, how easy, and yet difficult it can be to make the right choice. Doing so allows us to move down the right path, and progress in creating a better life for ourselves. As a blessing, we have that ability through agency to make our choices, whether bad or good. It is important, to make the right decision even if the outcome appears or seems to be negative. You will always be blessed for making the right choice. As you do so, you will see the benefits and blessings that come from making right choices. This naturally increases your desire to want to do what is right. For example, as you hold a door open for an individual, they then proceed to thank you for your action. In turn, you feel the joy of making a right choice, and you look for opportunities to do it again, in order, to feel that feeling of joy and appreciation. By making righteous decisions in your life, your life will be blessed with happiness and a sense of fulfillment.
I love that we all are so different and unique. Each person full of different strengths and various talents. It is because of this that we have the ability to help and bless one another. As T.S. Eliot said, "What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?” I find this to be a profound statement. To help understand this and go a little more in depth, we see that some people are innovative and creative. Finding new ways to improve the lives of others. As a result of this, for example, we have facilities that can bless less fortunate individuals lives. We have museums that display the talent of individuals throughout history. Some people have the gift of knowledge and are those that teach us continually through our lives. Some have the ability to love and serve. They are those who are continually comforting us and taking care of us without looking for anything in return. Our talents and our gifts have the ability, if applied, to benefit others. To help bless others.
The Book of Mormon is not any ordinary book. There are vast concepts and profound doctrine to be learned and understood in this single book. The Book of Mormon contains the Doctrine of Christ. Helps portray how our Father in Heaven communicated to those in the past. This book illustrates how covenant making is not only necessary, but was established before our time. There are many events in the Book of Mormon that demonstrate how to fulfill your purpose and what exactly it is through the recorded history of another culture. While reading the Book of Mormon, I am able to receive personal insight and direction, for my life. I am able to see how Christ did exist, his mission, and what that means for me.
As I have read the Book of Mormon, I have noticed a stirring from within. A continual strength or peace sets in after I have taken the time to read. It fills your body. Even the smallest of section read, for when I have but little time, permits me to be mindful of my Savior. This effort permits, as it feels, to become spiritually connected to my Father in Heaven, or in a way, spiritually in tune, or more sensitive to His direction, love, comfort, guidance, etc. I have found, while reading the Book of Mormon, that you can find strength, comfort, peace, direction. It contains every answer to any situation you may find yourself encountering. The Lord has gien us this tool to magnify our life and spiritual understanding as to the mysteries of God. Reading it with an open heart/mind, while pondering upon the message contained (digesting it), unlocks the Power that is within. You become closer to our Father in Heaven as you strive to understand His will, and as you strive to continue to have the Spirit in your life. To uderstand spiritual things, you have to ask by the Spirit, then you'll receive your answer by the Spirit. Meaning, you must first obtain it. We do so by obeying what we read/learn in the Book of Mormon. This is essential. For by obedience do we obtain Faith, and by Faith do we obtain the Spirit. One of the fastest ways to obtain the Spirit is to read the Book of Mormon. I strive daily to read for a minimum of 30 mins a day. When I don't read, I find it hard to focus, receive answers to my prayers readily, and the most important, expect my Father in Heaven to keep his promise to bless me when I am not doing my part.
Well the obvious answer would be....because you know it is true. With truth, or correct knowledge, comes change. Many years ago, the people that inhabited the Earth, had a belief that the Earth was flat. You and I know this is not true and sort of funny. When discovered that the Earth was in deed round, this information was not so easily received. Since we know that the Earth is round, think of all the things that have come of this knowledge. How correct knowledge has allowed others to progress. When you know for yourself that the gospel is true, and your knowledge is based on the correct knowledge, it produces the desired results. As you become a personal witness to these events, you are confirmed in your belief/knowledge. You then in turn, desire others to partake of this and enjoy the blesings you have received. As we work to becoming Christ-like, and developing His attributes, we become more easily entreated and submissive to the Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit of the Lord is what testifies in our hearts that the message is true and allows us to have this gift from the Lord. A testimony. One that must be nutured, and taken care. It is this testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel, that is so special and personal, that we share with others and desire for them to have for themselves.
I live my faith by studying, pondering, and applying the doctrine in my everyday life. I teach all those who are willing and wanting to know. English and spanish speaking. I work hard to help provide an environment for the spirit to dwell where others can feel and recognize the love that Christ has for them.
