I'm a Mormon and I love it!

About Me

I am an avid motorcycle rider. I love trail riding in the mountains around my home. I also love just hanging out with friends. I love going camping and being out in nature. I have completed one semester of college and I plan on sticking with it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because primarily I know that this Church is the true Church of God. I have prayed to God and received an answer on multiple occasions. I also love the lifestyle of being a Mormon. I live a much cleaner and happier life than a lot of people in the world and it helps me to remain focused on the things that really matter most.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going out into the community and sharing my beliefs with others around me. I try my best to be an example of someone who try's to follow Christ and his teachings. I also just do the basics that I know are right such as reading the scriptures and praying to God and going to Church.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No. For young men around the age of 19 it is strongly encouraged to serve a mission and for young women around 21 they can go if they want but no one is required to serve a mission. It is a personal choice.

Serving a mission is a priesthood responsibility, and young men are asked to sacrifice two years in order to serve others, gain experience as followers of Christ, and grow in their faith. However, that is a choice each individual has to make on their own and deciding not to go does not affect a person's standing in the Church. But those who do go, men and women alike, usually find that two years is not enough time and wish they could stay longer. Service creates bonds of love for the people you serve. I was unable to go in my young adult years, but I still yearn for the opportunity and look forward to a time when I can serve as a missionary.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Absolutely not. I personally have been a part of countless efforts to serve those not of our faith. We don't just serve others because we want them to join our Church. We serve because it's the right thing to do. Because it's what the Savior taught and exemplified. I think God often places people in our path when we are in a position to help. Sometimes, this can be a litmus test for how committed we are to living a Christlike life, especially if this "opportunity" comes at a very inconvenient time.

Perhaps we sometimes overlook opportunities to help because we are too focused on the problems staring us right in the face. I do know, however, that the Church makes a very concerted investment of time, talent, and resources in humanitarian aid throughout the world. We are often some of the first to arrive and the last to leave in cases like Hurricane Katrina, Haiti, and areas affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. We often coordinate our efforts with other organizations like the Red Cross or the Catholic Church.
