Hi, I'm Abe Talakai
Life is good! I have a lovely wife. I'm from California. I have a great family. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I have been happily married for 5 yrs. I am a Union Electrician. I enjoy hard work. Through the things I have learned in this trade I have been able to help family and friends. I enjoy playing chess because it makes you think. I like working out. I enjoy the simple things of life.
Why I am a Mormon
As a kid, I went to church and couldn't wait to get out. When I was 11 years old, I paid attention in Sunday school and applied what I learned the next day at school. I felt good. I felt that there was a God and that He did send His Son Jesus Christ to earth for me. I have strived to live what I have been taught. I have learned through study, prayer, and personal experience that the things I've learned in church are true. At times I wanted to follow the crowd as a youth, but am so grateful that Heavenly Father blessed me with the courage to just be me. I have seen miracles in my life. I have had many weaknesses strengthened in this great gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me hope. This is why I am a Mormon.
Personal Stories
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Mormons go on missions to share the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Missionaries help people all over the world have more Faith in Jesus Christ. I am grateful I was able to be part of this great work, when I served in El Salvador, Central America from 2002-2004. This is by far one of the greatest experiences in my life. I was able to see God's hand and love in El Salvador. It was a culture shock for me as well. I was under the erroneous idea, that us here in America are the smartest people in the world. I thought people that couldn't speak english were inferior. When I arrived in El Salvador, the tables were turned. I couldn't speak spanish. I felt inferior. I have grown to love people all over the world, and know that even though they don't speak english, that doesn't make anyone inferior. I was able to teach great families in El Salvador. I also learned that the Gospel is the same all over the world, just spoken in different languages. I sang the same songs in El Salvador as I did here in California. We taught the same Gospel here as over there. I was able to see lives changed and strengthened for the better. I became a better person because I served a Mission. This is why Mormons go on missions.
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?
Faith is one of the teachings that have influenced me in my life. Faith in Jesus Christ gives us strength to press on. Faith has helped me change for the better. Faith is being your best at the worst times. There is a quote I love, "people can be divided into three categories, those that watch things happen, those that wonder, what happened? And those that make things happen." Faith helps me make positive things happen. Faith is action. Faith moves a person to take a step forward. Faith in Jesus Christ continues to help me everyday.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by striving to follow my Savior's footsteps. I live my faith by fulfilling my responsibilities at church. I strive to be a little better each day.
