About Me

I am a college graduate with a degree in history. I use the things I learned in college such as how to stay focused and awake for long hours and nights at home where I work as a mother to my 3 boys, (none of them school age quite yet) I have dabbled in scrapbooking, sewing and other crafts none of which I am particularly good at but I enjoy finished products. I like reading and enjoy BBC shows especially ones based on books I love. Secretly, I am also a sci-fi geek. I enjoy a good sci-fi movie or show just as much as a new take on Pride and Prejudice.

Why I am a Mormon

I was not looking for the Gospel when it found me. I was 19 and had actually never really heard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I met a young man in an AOL chatroom (this was in 1999) he was a recent return missionary. We fell in love over the internet before dating sites existed and I could not help but notice that he was different. He courted me and was a gentleman. What would give this young man such impeccable standards? It was that he had been raised in the Gospel. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed diligently as to its truthfulness and I attended church with him for months. One day I knew it was time to get serious. I invited the missionaries to come and teach me the principles. I remember thinking something that would make someone do so much good and strive continually to be worthy of our Heavenly Father could only be of Him. I joined and have been so grateful as I have watched those around me struggle with decisions that seem so clear to me, that I have the Gospel. I have the plan of Salvation. I know what my Heavenly Father wants of me. I know this Gospel is true and that my happiness and the joy in my life stems from my willingness to serve those around me and obey Heavenly Father's commandments.

How I live my faith

I continually strive to be a friend to my neighbors and a helping hand to someone who needs me. I help plan activities for the women in my ward (church). We plan activities that give opportunites to serve in our community, and grow our freindships between one another and those that touch our lives.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

By the missionaries and their families. Future missionaries are encouraged to save throughout their lives for their missions. Local congregations can also support missionaries. Ultimately, the money the missionary and his or her family pays to the Church is put into a common fund, the Missionary Support Fund. This is used to support missionaries throughout the world so that all missionaries are able to pay the same amount, whether they are sent to a rich or poor country. MSF money is used to pay for the missionaries' homes, telephones and groceries so the missionaries can focus completely on their work. Show more Show less

When I served my own mission in Japan, oh so many years ago, I worked hard and saved so that I would be able to pay for my missionary service. The church calls missionaries to serve and share the message of the gospel, which they do at their own expense. I spent my own funds in preparing and outfitting myself for 2 years of service in Japan, planning to also pay my expenses while there. My parents, struggling already, were able to provide the monthly payments and I was able to come home to some money still in my own accounts to help me get started in my schooling. It wasn't until my own son was called to serve that I really understood that Heavenly Father blesses his missionaries and their families as they sacrifice to serve him. It is a stretch to call it a sacrifice when he so abundantly blesses us all. I know that it started before, but from the moment he received his mission call, The blessings flowed freely in our family and we have been able to keep him out in the mission field. Now he too will be able to come home and won't have to start from nothing. I don't know that without the blessings from his service, that I would have been able to provide beautiful weddings for 2 daughters while also helping to support him in his efforts. I am so grateful for a church that gives us opportunities like this where we open ourselves to the blessings of heaven. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

For me, nature is one of the strongest evidences that there is a God. It is hard for me to believe that the mountains, oceans, forests, flowers, animals, and skies were randomly formed. It is hard to deny the beauty and the peace one can feel while sitting in silence and looking into the night sky. Beyond that, answered prayers tell me there is a God. I have prayed too many times and seen answers too many times for me to think that it has all been coincidence. These were prayers that expressed my concerns of which no one knew, yet were accompanied by answers that were so specific and detailed. God loves us to a degree we cannot comprehend, and as we look we will feel His love in very powerful and comforting ways. Show more Show less
