Hi, I'm Joalene
I love God, family, and freedom, and I'm a mormon
About Me
I grew up in a small Arizona town. I graduated High School 2nd in my class. I attended a university with a full-ride scholarship, where I met my Husband. I had always dreamed of becoming a mother and shortly after my first child was born, I told my husband that he had made all of my dreams come true. I love science, math, history, writing and art. I am a pretty accomplished poet, when I get the time. I especially love freedom, and so I study all I can about it. I cherish my family. They are everything in the world to me. I have been blessed with 6 beautiful children and a faithful husband who works hard so that I can be at home with them. I love to draw and paint. I also love to help those who are in need in some way. My dream is to have a happy self-less, loving family and to have it forever
Why I am a Mormon
I'm a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for the truths they have given us. I know that these truths can lead my family and I back home to their presence. Through studying the Bible and the Book of Mormon and through prayer, I received a clear answer that this is His true church on the earth today. Starting at about 16 years old I spent hours each day studying these scriptures. I prayed and asked God to let me know whether this was his true church. One Sunday I got up in front of the congregation to bare my testimony. An intense feeling of power swept through my body as I bore witness to all there that I knew this was His true church that had been restored in these latter-days. Since then I have had many more such feelings concerning additional truths. God answers my prayers and guides my life. He is so kind and loving to me and is the perfect example for me to pattern my life after. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints provides the tools that I need to make it back home in heaven to live with my family forever!
Personal Stories
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
It is really interesting, how the Book of Mormon has brought me closer to God. As a youth when I started spending time studying it taught me about God, about his plan for me and about choices and consequences that he has promised us. It taught me to build my foundation upon Christ that if I do my "house" will not fall. But even more than learning of Christ and his doctrine and motivating me to be more righteous there is a power that came into my life as I read His words daily. A power that as a youth was easy to percieve. I'm sure we all remember how much of a struggle life was as a teenager. Mine was no different. From the day I started reading this book, it was as if those heavy burdens that seemed to pile on everyday were lifted. I have a testimony of this book's power for good. I love this book.
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost has the job of testifying of the truth of all things. It has helped me tremendously in my life. It has prompted me to notice someone in need and to help them. He has warned me of impending danger. He helps me know when I study things which things are true, and which things are not. He gives me gifts of patience, charity, faith, hope, and brings and overwhelming comfort to me of God's love. The Holy Ghost gives me "eyes to see" and "ears to hear" what the Lord would have me learn.
How I live my faith
I once heard that it is our duty to leave this world a better place than when we found it. This is what I do and this is what I teach my children. At church I have the privlege of teaching 15 wonderful 5 year old children. I teach them about prayer, about Jesus Christ and about all the wonderful things he taught. I have spent many hours volunteering at my children's school as an academic chairperson, organizing spelling bees, math bees, science fairs and reflections contests. I also volunteered in my children's classes as an art docent / teacher. Currently I home-school my children, because I found that while they were at school, I didn't have the time with my children that I needed. Now I get to spend so much more time with them teaching them school. I get to teach them to love freedom, through studying the constitution, and many other fun subjects favorites of mine, such as math and science, history and art. When I run errands I bring my children and they are so good to try and help. When we are at the store they find things knocked down and pick them up and put them where they belong. We clean up trash we see in the parking lot, and try to put a few extra shopping carts away as we leave. They especially enjoy looking for someone who might need help and asking them if they can assist them. This is truly my joy, to see my children raised up unto righteousness. At home we have family prayer morning and night and study the scriptures together each morning. I love the Lord and hope to pass this legacy down through the generations
