I have played piano since the tender age of 4. I can play by ear or by note and have played for many groups. I also love playing the organ. I taught piano for years and also taught clogging, which is a type of tap dance. Music manufactures many different emotions and is my creative outlet in life. Another avenue that brings me a lot of joy is my 18 grandchildren. I don't worry very much and have found the silver lining in most everything that happens to me.
I was born into the LDS church. I have been active all of my life with the exception of 3 weeks when I was a young adult. At that time I thought, "Why do I go to Church? Who cares?" So I decided not to go one Sunday. This lasted for 3 weeks, when I changed my mind because of how I felt. I could live like the rest of the world on Sundays, but it didn't feel right. I was drawn to the spirit I felt by attending Church. That spirit has stayed with me as I have raised my 6 children. I love my Father in Heaven and my elder brother Jesus Christ.
Two of my grandsons have Gaucher's disease, a rare genetic disorder due to lack of a specific enzyme. They will have to be treated every 2 weeks for the rest of their lives, and they are only 4 and 5 years of age. While I can't be with them because we live in a different state, I can pray for them and be a support to their parents through communication. I and my other children will be sending them a packet of crafts that the boys can do during their 2+ hours of treatment.
When our son Jimmy died in 2003, this was very hard on my husband and me. But the Holy Ghost helped us out so much by giving us a tremendous amount of peace. This peace in our hearts has carried us through the years, and we know he is doing well. Because he has been sealed to us in the holy Temple, we know we will see him again some day. I love this doctrine.
I strive to do something each day to benefit mankind. This is sometimes a challenge because my husband is wheelchair bound and has to be assisted in almost every task. I love helping him and also love to help others by doing what I can. One way I can help is to talk with them, assess their needs, and fulfill their needs or find someone who can.
