Hi, I'm Chelsea
I'm a college student. I love literature and music. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I was born in Utah. I am the youngest of six children. Halfway through my junior year of high school I moved to Oregon.
I am a college student, and I am studying English Education, with a minor in Journalism Education. My dream is to be a high school teacher/newspaper advisor when I graduate.
I love to read and write. Mostly I like to read young adult literature, because I feel as though it is important for young people to read when they are in junior high and high school, as the characters in the books they read are going through the same obstacles in life that they are.
I also love music. I have been playing the piano since I was six, and singing even before then. I have recently started learning how to play the guitar and love it. Whenever I am stressed or need a break from homework, I usually will play music, because it helps me clear my head.
Why I am a Mormon
To be perfectly honest, the main reason why I am Mormon is because I was raised Mormon. I grew up going to church every Sunday and going to different church activities during the week. However, that is just the foundation of why I am Mormon.
I am Mormon because it makes me happy. I've gone through many trials in my life, most of which people twice my age haven't even gone through. What always helps me pull through is the knowledge that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me for who I am. I am a Daughter of God, and He wants me to be happy and live my life the way He has asked me to; I am willing to do so, because of the happiness and peace I feel when I do.
I also know that I have a Savior who loves me and sacrificed himself for me; He has felt every insecurity and sadness and mistake that I have felt or made.
Personal Stories
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
I was just 11 years old when my father passed away unexpectedly and I was 13 when my mother passed away from a disease that suffered with for almost two years. I have found comfort in knowing that when they died, they returned to a loving Father in Heaven who welcomed them with loving arms. I rejoice that someday I will get to see them again, but it also helps me be a little bit better. I want to live my life righteously so that I can see them again, and so that they will be proud of me.
Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.
I am so grateful for the Restoration of the Gospel on this earth. My life would be completely different without this gospel. I know that when Joseph Smith restored this gospel to the earth, he was restoring Christ's church. I am grateful that we have priesthood power and a prophet to lead us through these days. I am grateful that we can enjoy the blessings of the temple. All of these keys and blessings that Christ established in His church during His ministry are here on this earth today because of the Restoration.
How I live my faith
One of my favorite ways that I have been involved with our church is by teaching Sunday school. I'm studying to be a teacher and this gives me the opportunity to combine something I'm good at with something I love. I gain so much when I prepare my lessons and from my students sharing their ideas in class.
I have also worked a lot with the music for our main meeting. I played the piano for our congregational hymns, and I also was in charge of choosing the hymns and finding musical numbers for our meeting.
