Hi, I'm Shellie
I love to learn, I love to teach, luckily I get to do both each and every day. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister. Family is very important to me. The relationships I have with my family and friends are of great value. I enjoy teaching at all levels and in varied subjects. I've taught my children to read, to write, to be kind, to forgive, to be helpful, and to find their talents and work hard to develop them. I enjoy sports and I also love to garden and grow and preserve a lot of my own food.
Why I am a Mormon
I am mormon because it makes me happy and gives me hope. I can have nothing, but still have hope because of the principles of the gospel that I have learned and lived. I am mormon because it gives me an eternal perspective. It helps me see what is really important in this busy and hectic life. I am mormon because I have grown closer to God by abiding by the precepts of the gospel and know Him more and understand our relationship because of what I have been taught and what I have learned. I am mormon because I love Jesus Christ and want to be more like him each day.
Personal Stories
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?
Forgiveness. I love the story in the Bible where the man is forgiven a large sum and then when given the opportunity he can't forgive a small sum. This reminds me everyday that I need to forgive if I want Jesus Christ to forgive me.
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
I enjoy learning more about my family. In doing family history work I was able to find an obituary from a small town where my great-great grandparents had lived. I didn't know much about this great-great grandfather, but his obituary tied me to him immediately. He was a miner and was all over the place trying to find work to support his family. At one point he came down with the flu and knew he wasn't going to make it home. He didn't want his family to think that he had just run away from them so he started to walk home. He walked over 500 miles until he could find a train to take him the rest of the way. He had to be carried home from the train and made it home just in time. He told his family that he needed to make it back to the dearest spot on earth for him. After having seen his wife and children, he died the next day. I'm so grateful for this good man and the sacrifices he made for his family.
How I live my faith
Everyday I try to be the best person that I can be. I try to be kind and give others the benefit of the doubt. I try to help whenever and wherever I can. Right now I get to work with the Bear Cubs in Cub Scouts. I work with 8 nine-year old boys every week. We've learned all sorts of things from the history of our great country to how to peel a carrot. These are wonderful boys who give me hope for the future.
