About Me

I grew up in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. I love traveling and have lived in the Philippines, Kenya, and Zambia. I was a missionary for the Mormon church in Southern California. I am a proud liberal Mormon working in public health in inner city areas of the urban South.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, but I have stayed in the Church because of the peace I feel through the gospel. The gospel gives me perspective to cope with the challenges of life. I love the sense of community I feel with my congregation and with the Church as a whole.

How I live my faith

In my congregation, I am in charge of planning the social activities. I enjoy helping people enjoy their lives a little more. I also have several women in the ward that I watch over. They have become some of my closest friends & I love talking with them. I try to be an example of Christ's love and acceptance with everyone I meet.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Mormons are not required to serve a mission. I choose to serve a mission because I wanted to share the happiness I have received from having the gospel in my life. I believe my mission was one the most influential experiences of my life & helped me become the person I am today.

No. Every worthy young man is expected to serve a mission, though there is no punishment for not doing so. Also, not every young man is physically or mentally capable, so there are circumstances where a young man may be excused from service. Young women may also serve missions, but are not expected to do so.

Serving a mission means a full-time commitment, leaving family and friends to preach the gospel in a place assigned by the Church.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Be honost and realize how damaging pornography is to yourself. Because of its damaging influence on self-esteem pornography also damges your relationship with others. So I would say, just get away from it and get an army of people to help you do so if necessary! When you get away then you'll see the joy and happiness the influence of pornography takes you away from. With this awakening, youll want to warn others to get away from the deception of pornography.
