About Me

I am a mom to one baby boy. I spent four years at college and when I followed my husband to law school, I decided to finish my degree online. I am an English Language major. I work part time as a tutor for high school students and love it.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are members of the church and I was born and raised as a member. My baptism day is still a day that stands out in my memory as one of the best days. I have had so many good experiences in the church and my faith has grown so much throughout the years. I have made life long friends and have become a better person through what the gospel has taught me.

How I live my faith

Every Sunday, I attend church with my family of three. We try to have family night on Mondays where we learn more about values we have and teachings we should live by. Family prayer and scripture study are a part of our daily lives. I work with all the women in our area to get them involved in activities with each other. I enjoy attending all the activities like mom's groups, exercise groups, and groups that expand our knowledge of the church.

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society encompasses all the women of the church. It is a place women go to learn more about their jobs on earth and to learn about the gospel. In addition to meetings during church on Sunday, the Relief Society holds meetings during the month where the women can get together in a more casual atmosphere to socialize, to increase their talents, and to perform service for other women in the area.

To me, Relief Society means friendship. It's an opportunity to know and love and learn from other women from so many different backgrounds and situations and ways of looking at life and yet they are truly my sisters! I can't tell you how many times I have been wrestling with an issue in my own life and there, during the course of our class or other conversation, comes the answer. I know that Heavenly Father so often works through others to answer our prayers, and to me Relief Society is a huge example of that. I'm grateful not only for those who reach out to me, but for the opportunies to reach out to others through Relief Society. It is an inspired program and a wonderful asset to my life!

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

I think some call Mormonism a cult mainly because they don't understand what it's about. Before I was a Mormon, I used to believe that Mormons did not believe in the Bible, in Jesus Christ and a good deal of other things. I didn't realize how incorrect I was. There have been some pretty amazing things that have happened in conjunction with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and if you don't get the whole picture, then some of the stuff can sound pretty odd, and I think that's where I was before.
An example I sometimes use is: if someone told you that he had cut a man with a knife, from that limited piece of information, you'd probably report him for stabbing someone. But if you found out that this someone was a Doctor, and that he was preforming a surgery to save a man's life, having the full story completely changes your perspective on the situation.
In regards to the church I belong to, once I did have the whole story, I could see that Mormons were not cultish, but that they really are in fact Christians. I've even found that I have a stronger love of the the core things I believed before I was a Mormon, like the Bible and Jesus Christ.
