Hi, I'm Emily
I am an average everyday person with strong convictions. I haven't done anything the world would consider amazing. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a wife and mom. I graduated college with a bachelors degree in Exercise and Sports Science. I love to be outdoors, especially around water; waterskiing, wakeboarding, etc. Other hobbies include trying different crafts, hiking, exploring, and learning new things.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into a family that has great mormon pioneer heritage; quite a few of my ancestors traveled through the plains to the Salt Lake valley. I was taught from birth about the gospel from family, especially parents and grandparents. I chose to be baptized at age 8. In my late teens, after some difficult choices, I began to remember what it felt like when I followed God's commandments compared to when I didn't. Since that time, I have committed to doing what the Lord would have me do because that is when I am the happiest and that is when life doesn't seem overwhelming. Being a Mormon has helped me know what I should be doing and helped me control my life instead of letting my life control me.
Personal Stories
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
Knowledge of the Plan of Happiness has been a great comfort in my life. I didn't realize how important is was until I was attending the funeral of a cousin. My aunt had been divorced and remarried. Her second husband is another religion. They were blessed to have a daugther but this baby was born with a condition called Trisomy 18 an extra 18th chromosome that causes problems with the development of major organs. She wasn't supposed to be born according the the doctors. She wasn't supposed to live one day but she lived to be 8 years old although never surpassing the development of a 9 month old. It was at her funeral I realized how and why the Plan of Happiness helped me. The family of my aunt's husband, who all share his same beliefs, were extremely sad and almost inconsolable. On the other hand, my family who has an understanding of the Plan, was sad that my cousin had to die so young but we understood that it was her time to continue on in the Plan. We also knew that we would see her again some day. It made it so that although we missed her dearly we could continue on and remember the good times and look forward to our meeting again.
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
I don't understand exactly how or why but when I read the Book of Mormon daily I have an easier time obeying the commandments. I feel like I am able to control my temper better, that I am more patient, and generally in a better mood. I have less road rage even, which is hard to believe sometimes. There is something in the words or the feelings from the words that make the little things seem little and less bothersome. It helps me keep my priorities in place. Although I don't understand the details I do know that when I read the Book of Mormon, God sends the Holy Ghost to testify of the truth and provide me with the help I need.
How I live my faith
I served an LDS mission in Ecuador where I taught the people there about the Mormon church but I also served them by helping build community resources. Currently in the LDS church, I work with children from toddlers up to age 12. I love teaching them about all of God's creations and how we know God and Jesus love each and everyone of us. I love helping them understand that being obedient to God's commandments will help us enjoy life and show God we love him.
Also, I try to live my life in a way that I would be happy and comfortable if I could see my Savior, Jesus Christ standing right next to me. Although I fail many times, I am happy in my efforts and constantly seek to do better.
