Shellie : Mormon.

Hi, I'm Shellie

I was raised in Utah but now I live in Texas with my husband and kids. I work once a week as an ER nurse. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I live in Texas with my husband and 3 great kids. Our days are filled with school, work, play, lessons, and time as a family. We enjoy playing games, watching movies and sometimes even working together. Once a week I get to change hats for 12 hours and become an ER nurse. I love it! I am so grateful for my education. Beyond nursing, I enjoy reading and listening to books, sewing, cooking, running, and taking care of my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the LDS church. I was baptized when I was eight and my parents taught us about being good members of the church. When I moved away to college, I realized that this was the time that I would decide if I was truly dedicated to the religion I had been raised in. I knew it was true but was I committed enough on a personal level to get myself to church at 8:30 Sunday morning each week and attend all of my meetings? Because of the experience I had up to that point in my life and enjoying the blessings that come through obedience to the commandments of God, I knew that my answer was a resounding yes! I made that commitment and have never looked back. My life is richly blessed each day as I continue to choose to live the teachings of our Savior and the teachings that have been revealed by latter day prophets through revelation. This church is true and I will hold fast to its teachings all the days of my life. I will teach my children these pure and simple truths so that they too may enjoy these blessings. And I will gladly share my testimony of this church with those around my through my words and my deeds and the way I live my life.

Personal Stories

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

I was raised a member of the church and had always been taught that if I prayed Heavenly Father would hear and answer those prayers. I believed this and said my prayers every day but when I was seventeen by faith in prayer was truly tested. I was in a snowmobililng accident. My friend and I were both injured and could not go to get help. We were with other people but they did not know where we were exactly and it was hard to see us where we had crashed. I remember feeling overwhelming faith and knowledge that if I prayed Heavenly Father would help us be found. I prayed out loud a very short and simple prayer. We were found by our friends and a troop of Scouts whose leader happened to be a paramedic. My friend unfortunately did not survive the crash but I knew that my prayer was answered and I had felt comfort and peace throughout my experience. He is there and He is listening and He loves us and wants to help us but we need to talk to him and that is through prayer.

How I live my faith

I have been so blessed to serve in our ward over the last year as the head of the women's organization. There are many responsibilities that come with this but one is to care for the welfare needs amongst our members and some non members. As I have seen up close how the church distributes its welfare resources I have come to feel our Heavenly Father's love for all of his children. He does not want his children to suffer but this earthly life is not always easy. The church has an amazing Welfare and Humanitarian program. Members of the church make monetary donations through fast offerings and also donations of time and resources. The church takes these donations and uses them to produce all sorts of food products to provide food through a sort of food pantry to members all over the world. Humanitarian aid is not only for members of the church. The church has donated medical supplies, clothing, hygiene kits, newborn kits, education, school kits, quilts, food, vaccines, clean water supplies, emergency equipment, disaster relief and much more. I am but one member of this organization that is able to reach out to God's children around the world. I pray that I will be able to continue making a difference in my part of the world to those around me by helping those in need.
