Hi, I'm Alex
I love math, I don't go to BYU, I'm on a mission and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I come from a wonderful imperfect family! I have a brother and a sister and my parents have been married for 25 years. I grew up in Eastern Washington and love the browness ofthat side of the state. I love watching the sun set since I am rarely awake to watch the sun rise. I love being with my family and I love learning more about the Savior. I want to get a degree in Math and work toward one day teaching collegiate math. I love sports and enjoy playing most. I love driving with the windows down and the music up singing as best I can. I love being a member of Christ's church and striving each day to become more like Him. This is my life goal...to be more like the Savior!
Why I am a Mormon
I was raised in a home where the gospel was taught from early on. My dad learned of the gospel through my mom who shared her beliefs and knowledge with him. I am so grateful for both of their testimonies of the Savior and of the Book of Mormon which testifies of Jesus Christ. It has made a profound impact on who I have become. I have known from early on that I am a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father who knows and loves me. I have always felt that the Book of Mormon was true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet. But it wasn't until my freshman year of college, when there were a lot of people that didn't believe what I believed, that I really had a hungering to know for myself that what I'd been taught was true. I remember reading from the Book of Mormon and then praying about it each night before I went to bed. And one day I was sitting on my bed in my dorm room and having this overwhelming feeling that I had always known it was true and that I should no longer doubt the Spirit that I had felt so many times in my life.
I have since read the Book of Mormon several times and have prayed several more times to know if it is the word of God and if Joseph Smith did indeed see God the Father and Jesus Christ. Everytime I have that same reassuring feeling of peace and joy! The Spirit was witnessed to my spirit the truth and the light that is contained in the Book of Mormon. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and it does in fact testify of Jesus Christ. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's kingdom once again established on the earth. Christ is at the head of it and He leads it through a modern prophet, Thomas Monson. I know that prayers are answered and that Heavenly Father is ever aware of our needs and our wants. He loves us, and so does the Savior. For that knowledge alone I am grateful, the rest is just icing on the cake!
Personal Stories
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Mormons go on missions to spread the good news about the fullness of Christ's church being restored. For myself, I decided to serve a mission because my Heavenly Father needed me to share the knowledge He has given me to my fellow brothers and sisters. I know that the Book of Mormon has changed my life and I want to be able to help others change their lives for the better. I know that the message we share is true and the right thing to do is to help others know as well. That's what Christ did and would do.
How does making right choices help us make more right choices?
I firmly believe that by making small right choices each day, other right choices become easier to make. It's like a habit. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. I believe that by small and simple things, do great things come to pass. But also by small and simple things do great things fall apart. If we are not focusing on each small choice each day, then we will one day realize that we are far from where we intended to be. This is why small right choices each day are so vitally important! By making right choices, we also allow the Spirit more influence in our lives. And when we have that uplifting influence more abundantly in our lives, we have a greater power to make more and more right choices!
How I live my faith
I live my faith by each day doing my best to be more like the Savior. I have a long way to go, a really long way to go, but I know that this is the most worth-while goal I can have. I haven't always given my all to being like the Savior, but in doing so I've been able to understand who Heavenly Father intended me to be and am so much happier! I didn't know you could actually be this happy even while going through hard and difficult things. I've learned that our perspective in life will greatly impact our choices. And even the smallest choices affect our happiness and our eternal dwelling place. It really is in the details of our lives that makes the most profound difference in where and with whom we will spend eternity. I am currently serving a mission for the Lord and I have the oppurtunity to share the things I know to be true with others. It's an amazing oppurtunity for me to learn to be completely selfless, as the Savior was, and think 100% about the needs of others and how I can help them become closer with the Savior and feel in greater abundance the love our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ have for them. I love becoming each day a more devoted disciple of Jesus Christ!
