What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

We go to church weekly to worship and take the sacrament, which is like communion. Everyone, no matter their faith, is welcome to come to church services and learn more about the Gospel. The temple is a special place where members make further promises to Heavenly Father that they will keep his commandments. It is also where we are married, or sealed together, and where we can be baptized and sealed for our family members who have died before having those opportunities in life. To go to the temple you need a card called a temple reccomend from your church leaders that confirms that you are currently doing your best to follow Christ and His Gospel as a member of the Church. All church members have the opportunity of attending church weekly on Sunday to receive instruction. We learn by listening to talks prepared by other church members on the doctrine of the church. In our worship service we also receive the sacrament where we recommit ourselves to becoming more like the Savior and remembering His sacrafice for us in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. We also study the scriptures in Sunday School. We often have responsibilities to teach chidren or other adults. Through these responsibilities we learn more about the gospel and gain a greater testimony. The purpose of the temple is to make further covenants or promises to the Lord. In order to attend the temple you must be worthy to attend. It is a higher level of commitment. In the temple you take further sacred covenants for yourself and for those who have died and not had the opportunity to attend the temple. Because we believe that life is eternal and that all of God's children are important to Him, we believe that partaking in these ordinances for all mankind is a way of showing our love for others. We believe that all mankind will have the opportunity of accepting or rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ when they die. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

As a convert I was concerned that the bible was replaced by the Book of Mormon. How far from the truth that concern was, as the Bible is the LDS primary teaching tool and the Book of Mormon is simply another testament of Jesus Christ and serves to verify the truths found in the Bible. Cerrtainly the Bible is Holy Scripture and the Word of God, as is the Book of Mormon. I have come to love the Book of Mormon and cross-reference the Bible and Book of Mormon finding the same truths in both volumes of scripture. Show more Show less
