Hi, I'm Kristi
I am a wife, a foster mom and a business owner. I am fluent in French and Sign Language...and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a specialized foster care provider for two adults with intellectual disabilities. I have worked in the hotel industry for over 20 years. I have an accessories business that specializes in purses and handbags. I love to travel, read, knit and cook. I am married to an amazing man who is my best friend. I LOVE animals...especially dogs!
Why I am a Mormon
I was constantly searching for something...I just did not know what. I believed that Jesus was my Savior, but I knew there was more to learn. I did not believe that religion stopped two thousand years ago. I went from church to church investigating different deominations of Christianty searching for the truth. A new family moved into my complex who was of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was interested to find out about what they believed and asked many questions. I requested literature from them and fell in love with the Scriptures of the restored gospel and the modern day revelation. They invited me to church and my experience was wonderful! Although I was brought up to believe that Mormons were evil, I did not find that when I went to experience it for myself. I found a wonderful community of people who walked the talk that they preached. Service was a huge and necessary part of the church. This was something I felt other churches lacked. Charity was expected, but not defined and outlined as in the Mormon Church. The Church spoke of living out one's life by following the example of Christ - and took that litterally. It was so refreshing to come to a place where love was the basis of all acts of service and that love stems from the atonement of Christ.
Personal Stories
What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?
TV and other media sources are a large influence in today's culture. I have tried to be very selective of the programs we watch during family time. I also try to plan activities for the family that require engaging in conversation. We do love board games! I have made it a priority for the family to come around the table together at dinner. This gives us additional time to re-connect from our busy days and share experiences.
How I live my faith
I try to live my faith by example. Being Mormon, others look to you and expect you to be the example...to be perfect. Since I am human, I can not be perfect without Christ. I seek guidance daily from Heavenly Father through prayer and Scripture reading on what He wishes me to do that day. I am grateful for the restored gospel and the living atonement that assists me to be the example that God wants me to be.
