About Me

I'm from a small town in Idaho called Ammon. I currently attend Brigham Young University where I am involved in the Political Science and International Relations departments. I am heavily involved, politically, in my community and in my state. I have an incredible family and am blessed to be the oldest of 5 children. My motto is "family first"! I love my family with all my heart. They are my best friends. My favorite weekly activities are going to the temple with friends and family, voluteering at the MTC, singing and performing in church and various other events, participating in Model United Nations, spending time with my siblings, and singing at retirement homes on Sunday nights.

Why I am a Mormon

I was to born into a family that were already faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have had many testimony enriching experiences throughout my life that testify to me of the constant companionship of our Lord. I am a mormon because the love of our Savior, that overcomes my soul, is undeniable. The spirit that I feel when I am obedient to His word is the most amazing feeling in the world!

How I live my faith

I try to live each day with an "eye single to the glory of God". I try to read my scriptures daily to help keep me closer to the Savior and his teachings. I strive to live by the principle of exact obedience, which means obeying all of God's commands to his children. My goal is always be involved in activites that will lift me up and glorify the Lord Almighty!

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

I have been ridiculed for being apart of a church that does not allow woman "equal rights". I believe this to be a fallacy. There are many woman that sit on general boards of this church. While a man has been called of God to be the head of the church, woman still play a large role. Women do not hold the priesthood, because that is not their responsibility. The priesthood is the duty of the man. This is not to say, however, that they are the only ones who can receive blessings from the priesthood. Blessings are available to all. Woman play a different role. The objective of the priesthood is to help others and serve. The objective of motherhood is to also help others and serve, both have an intricate purpose and are essential to the others success.

Women don't hold the priesthood in the church, as this is a teaching that has come from Jesus Christ. However, women have such a significant role to play in the church that personally I have never felt that this is an issue I am concerned with or even think about. My husband and I are equal partners in our family, and the church has such respect and reverence for women and their role in the world. Women in the church also belong to what is called the 'Relief Society' it is one of the largest women's organisation in the world, and fills me with such a desire to serve and do good that when we meet together wherever I am in the world I feel so proud to be apart of it.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

I served a mission in South Korea for two years, so I can tell you. :) The missionaries will probably be as nervous as you are as they arrive at your home. The nervousness does not come from timidity or a lack of belief in the message they bring, but because they want so much to express their testimonies and the Spirit they feel to you.

The missionaries will likely introduce themselves and get to know you and your family. Though missionaries are called by God to preach His word, they come from largely every-day backgrounds and have lives likely much like yours.

After getting to know your family, they will likely ask what questions you may have about life or the Mormon church. Using the scriptures and their own personal experiences, they will seek to help you find answers. Don't be afraid of asking any question or thinking you may offend or sound silly to the missionaries. They are called to help and serve and are very understanding.

After answering your questions and sharing a spiritual message, the missionaries will ask you to act on the message. A soccer player does not listen to his coach during practice only to go home without kicking a ball, right? In the same way, the missionaries will invite you to read a chapter of scripture or seek for yourself that what they are saying is true. You don't have to just take the missionaries' word in what they say--a loving God is happy to answer thoughtful, earnest prayers seeking for the truth.
