I am a mother of five children. I love to sew, read and be outside.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the Lord and know this is His church. I love the peace that the gospel brings in my life. I know that I am not alone in my daily struggles because I feel Christ's love and guidance. Life is not easy but being a Mormon helps me to see the "bigger" picture.

How I live my faith

I love working with the women of the church in my area, planning the activities we do. It's amazing to me how much we learn from each other, grow together, and the fun we can have as we all take part. I have enjoyed working at the local food bank and learning to garden at the community garden.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is God's way of preparing us for the harmful things in the world. He provided a plan for us to use the good things of the world and to avoid the harmful things early on. He does not want us to be addicted and controlled by any substances. His plan helps us to be in control of our own bodies. The Word of Wisdom is a plan of moderation and self control. The blessings that come from living this wisdom are amazing.

The word of wisdom is the Lord's law of health. We abstain from drugs, tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea, and are encouraged to eat wholesome food and grains, and not eat excessive meat. I am asked all of the time by my fellow residents at the hospital why I don't drink coffee, and how I can stay awake all night on call without it. I don't consider it a sacrifice, though, and am as awake and perform as well as any. It is true that the body will be more healthy when following the word of wisdom, the but the main benefit is spiritual. The knowledge that you are in line with the the Lord's teaching is the most important thing.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I think the Church is growing because people see that there can be a better way to live, that they don't have to be bound by the chains of addiction, pornography, dysfunction and broken homes. We know that the most important thing in this world is the family and the future of this world is found in the lives of the children and teenagers we see on the street, in our malls and schools. The best thing we can do is teach them to be honest, upright and moral citizens who can contribute to the betterment of society. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the family is incredibly significant--so significant that God wants us to be families forever, even when we die. This is huge for many people in the world who realize that their children can really be with them forever. There is tremendous comfort in that, and I think this is why so many people are drawn to this Church. It provides hope and peace.
