About Me

I'm originally from Idaho. I've also lived in Utah, Iowa & Spain. I currently live in Texas. I love playing sports, watching sports, coaching sports. I especially love to run. I love playing any kind of game. I am a husband and father of 3 young boys. I have a BA in Spanish and an MBA in Finance/Accounting.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are members so I grew up a member, but when I hit the teenage years it became important for me to find out whether I really believed it. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to God to know. The spirit bore witness to me that it is true and so I have continued a Mormon ever since and I am so glad that I have as it has brought me so much happiness in my life.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life in a way that would please my Heavenly Father. I pray and study the scriptures to grow closer to God. I use clean language and help others. I take good care of my body and don't take harmful substances that would damage my body (and my spirit). I pay 10% of my income in tithing to the Lord and fast once a month and give money to be used for those in need. I seek forgiveness when I make mistakes and try to be a good Husband, Father, Employee, and Friend.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

A "ward" is a congregation of church members. The ward is based on geographical boundaries. A "branch" is like a "ward" only is a smaller congregation. A "Stake" is comprised of several wards (usually between 8 & 16) and is also based on geography. Show more Show less

It's a family of worshippers. It's a congregation. Our wards (or "branches," our term for smaller congregations), are organized geographically. Basically, where we live determines what ward we attend. Sometimes, two or three wards share one meetinghouse and simply meet at different times. A group of wards is organized into what we call a "stake." Members of a ward can become very much like a family as we study, pray, and serve together. Members of the ward receive "callings" from the Lord through the Bishop (head leader, like a pastor). The callings can include anything from teaching & playing with the youngest children at church, to running the ward library, to being a Scout leader, or choosing the songs to be sung in our sacrament meetings. As we humbly serve one another, our relationships deepen & we seek ways to serve each other beyond our respective callings! Show more Show less

The best portrait ever painted of our Heavenly Father is found in the Book of Moses. Enoch speaks with God, face to face, and is perplexed when he sees God weeping; he asks "How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity?" God answers: "Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency; and unto thy brethren have I said, and also given commandment, that they should love one another, and that they should choose me, their Father; but behold, they are without affection, and they hate their own blood"(Moses 7:32-33). God is not a cosmic dictator; He is a loving Father. We have no reason to be afraid of Him but have every reason to love Him with all of our heart, because His own heart beats in sympathy with our own. He loves us and wants us to be like Him. Heavenly Father is glorified and exalted, the same as Jesus Christ. Both the Father and the Son have perfect and immortal bodies of flesh and bone. They have feelings and can relate to us the same way our earthly parents and siblings can. We are to God what a baby is to his earthly father, made in his image but infinitely less intelligent or powerful. Like a child away at school, our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to come back home. He sent our Big Brother, Jesus Christ, to both prepare and show us the way home. Show more Show less
