Gladys : Mormon.

Hi, I'm Gladys

I was born in Bakersfield, CA. I am #4 of 7 girls. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in California.
I enjoy reading. I love spending time with my family and friends.
Music has always been a great influence in my life. I grew up singing with my sisters in church and participated in school choir and band groups. I really enjoy listening to my relatives singing in their native tongue-church hymns and folk songs. I believe the Holy Spirit truly communicates through music.
I grew up camping on the coast and mountains, but have to say that my favorite is the coast. Because my parents are from the islands, some of my most fond memories of growing up was of living off of the land-from fishing, crabbing, clamming, and picking muscles.
I have been very fortunate to live in a household where both parents are present. Although we've had our rough times, I believe the Gospel has been a true rock in our lives.
I had a wonderful opportunity of traveling to Australia and New Zealand in 2009 to visit family and absolutely loved it. I'd love to do more traveling in the future, too.
I'm pretty open to exploring and learning about new things.

Why I am a Mormon

In the South Pacific Islands, your identity is your religion. My maternal grandfather decided to listen to the message the missionaries had to share, although his family strongly disagreed. He not only converted, but accepted a calling to serve the church. My mom grew up in the mission field and has witnessed and testified of many miracles. She has been a great encouragement in helping my testimony grow.
I haven't been an active member all my life. I have slacked and even avoided attending church for a while because I was always hard on myself.
I believe we're all our own worst critics. My testimony of the repentance process has increased because I understand more regarding Jesus Christ, His grace, and mercy.
The Gospel has been a major strength in my life. The more I read scriptures, pray, and ponder.....the more my mind is opened. The peace and reassurance I feel is indescribable. There's always something new to learn. I find the more I learn, the more joy I feel.
I can think and make decisions easier. I strive to constantly keep the Holy Ghost as my companion. The smallest promptings make the biggest difference in my happiness.

"And Jesus will say, to all Israel-Come home!"

Personal Stories

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

I help strengthen my family by encouraging them to keep a daily schedule which includes Jesus Christ. We study the scriptures, pray, and discuss our daily tasks. We discuss our obstacles and how we can support each other. The simplest things you can do for others, show you care. We have family/friends who are not members and support them in anyway we can.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving in the nursery (ages 18mos-3yrs) and enjoy it. We help the children learn about the world they live in and what blessings come from following Jesus Christ through lessons, songs, and various activities.

I've served in other various positions such as primary (children ages 3yrs-12yrs). I've been a teacher and chorister.
