About Me

I am a working mom. I have three beautiful biracial children, who very greatly in their personalities. I teach all day and come home to teach some more. I love to read, and to cross stitch. Mostly I love to cuddle with my monkeys.

Why I am a Mormon

Born and raised in the church doesn't mean that I followed my parents and their testimony. I gained my own testimony when I was 16 and really feeling bad about who I was and where I was in my life. Through the testimonies of others and promptings of the spirit, I began to recognize that I am a daughter of God. I have a Heavenly Father who would not let me live on this earth alone and without guidance. I love that we have a prophet that leads and guides us. I know that I can speak directly to my Father in Heaven, through prayer, and if I listen I will receive answers to my prayers. I know this church is true. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. I think the most important thing I am learning know is: Pray and you shall receive, yet it will not always be on your schedule.

How I live my faith

I am a leader in the Young Women's program in our ward. I love our girls. They are so full of life and renew my energy each week. They help me to see their is still hope with the youth in our world today.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Family is very important in the church for more reasons than can be explained here. Holding the priesthood is just one of these reasons. Husbands act and bless their family with their priesthood, but wives benefit and honor the priesthood through their husbands. It is a symbiotic relationship. As I have participated in the church in various activities I have come to understand my importance as a woman in the church. There cannot be one without the other.

Women don't hold the priesthood in the church, as this is a teaching that has come from Jesus Christ. However, women have such a significant role to play in the church that personally I have never felt that this is an issue I am concerned with or even think about. My husband and I are equal partners in our family, and the church has such respect and reverence for women and their role in the world. Women in the church also belong to what is called the 'Relief Society' it is one of the largest women's organisation in the world, and fills me with such a desire to serve and do good that when we meet together wherever I am in the world I feel so proud to be apart of it.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Our fundamental religious service is what we call our Sacrament meeting. Anyone is welcome to join us in Sacrament meeting as well as our other Sunday meetings at any of our buildings. Sacrament is a time when we ponder and reflect on Jesus Christ's atonement for our sins, for He is the path by which we can repent of our wrongdoings and begin anew on a correct path with additional guidance from our Heavenly Father. Furthermore, on Sunday we have general Sunday School meetings where we talk more in-depth about the various doctrine of the gospel as well as meetings where we meet in groups of similarly-aged individuals to learn and discuss gospel topics more focused to each particular age group. We welcome anybody and everybody and would love to see you in our congregation spiritually connecting with your loving Heavenly Father and drawing nearer to him and his son, Jesus Christ.
