About Me

I recently converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 2008. I'm a professional firefighter and life-long Boy Scout. I am married to Missy, another convert from 1991. We have four children and four grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a Christian...baptised as a Methodist when I was 12. I had experienced many religions throughout my life, but something was always missing. I had tried to live my life by the 10 commandments and always follow the golden rule. Prior to meeting Missy, I had studied with the Jehovah's Witnesses, but could not completely get behind some of their teachings. There was always too much philosophies of man mixed into their programs...that I just didn't feel any of the churches were right. I watched the fall conference via a TV broadcast, approached the Missionaries with questions and I knew that this church was true.

How I live my faith

I have served in several leadership callings within the church assisting other members with family history research and with what ever service projects are needed. I support the Boy Scouts programs at the District and Council levels.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

I served a mission in South Korea for two years, so I can tell you. :) The missionaries will probably be as nervous as you are as they arrive at your home. The nervousness does not come from timidity or a lack of belief in the message they bring, but because they want so much to express their testimonies and the Spirit they feel to you.

The missionaries will likely introduce themselves and get to know you and your family. Though missionaries are called by God to preach His word, they come from largely every-day backgrounds and have lives likely much like yours.

After getting to know your family, they will likely ask what questions you may have about life or the Mormon church. Using the scriptures and their own personal experiences, they will seek to help you find answers. Don't be afraid of asking any question or thinking you may offend or sound silly to the missionaries. They are called to help and serve and are very understanding.

After answering your questions and sharing a spiritual message, the missionaries will ask you to act on the message. A soccer player does not listen to his coach during practice only to go home without kicking a ball, right? In the same way, the missionaries will invite you to read a chapter of scripture or seek for yourself that what they are saying is true. You don't have to just take the missionaries' word in what they say--a loving God is happy to answer thoughtful, earnest prayers seeking for the truth.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No. We admire Joseph Smith and consider him a prophet of God and follow his teachings as we do with Moses and other prophets of old. The thing that makes Joseph Smith unique amongst prophets is that he helped to bring the Church of Jesus Christ back to the earth after a period of darkness which is known as the Great Apostacy.
