Hi, I'm Allison

I'm from Taiwan. I'm a writer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of three school-aged boys. I enjoy writing short-short stories. I also love to run, play volleyball, racquetball, and scrapbook family photographs. I am currently working on writing my memoir/conversion story for publishing.

Why I am a Mormon

After attending my great-grandmother's funeral at age four, I started to wonder about life. Although none of the questions I had were ever answered. Everyone I knew avoided talking about death or the life beyond, my curiosity was never satisfied---Not until December 4,1986 when two Mormon missionaries knocked on the door of my father's house. My family members were self-claimed Buddhists, but were not at all interested in religion, which made it awkward whenever I tried to have a spiritual discussion with them. I was ecstatic when the missionaries introduced the Plan of Salvation and life's purpose to my family. All those questions I had carried in heart were answered! However, my parents did not share the same enthusiasm as I. They divorced soon after we had met the missionaries, and my father remarried within months after that. He and his wife told the missionaries not to come visit anymore. Barely surviving years of mental/emotional abuse from my stepmother, I found it necessary to return to investigation of the Mormon Church. In my vague memories, those days when I had learned about the Gospel from the missionaries was the only time in my life when I was truly happy. I desired to have that feelings back, to feel the love of God. I was baptized on November 20,1988, despite the constant threat from my father and his wife. At age 21, I was called to serve a full-time mission for the Mormon Church, and that was the best time in my life! I have a clear knowledge that God lives, and He loves us, His spirit children. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, so that if we have faith in Him and keep His commandments, we will be able to return to live with God again someday, with our eternal family.

Personal Stories

How can your talents and gifts bless others?

I mostly write short stories in my native Chinese on life experiences that reflect my faith. I have had feedback from readers who said that they were deeply touched by the Mormon lifestyle and the good deeds they have observed among Mormon members. I am grateful for the love and passion I am given by God for writing, so I can share my belief with many. I am particularly thankful for the knowledge of the Gospel that serves as a compass in life, and leads me toward the goal of eternal happiness.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

Heavenly Father desires to bless His children the abundant blessings come from the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. In order to do so, the Gospel needs to be taken to all corners of the world and be preached to all creatures. The Mormons choose to serve the Lord by sacrificing a short period of time in their life and go on missions, so that the great Plan of Salvation can be carried out, and that the eternal truth and happiness can be enjoyed by all God's children. In my youth, I served a full-time mission in the Taiwan Taichung Mission, it was the best time in my life, when I walked with God. I look forward to having the honor and privilege of serving another mission again, with my husband, when the time comes.

How I live my faith

I am an immigrant. After having lived in American for 16 years, I still struggle fitting in the social circle here. The Church calling I am given helps me to break the language and culture barriers, and allows me to befriend my wonderful neighbors and Church members, with whom I would otherwise find it difficult to be friends. I am a Gospel teacher and I teach women age 18 and older on various topics.
