I'm a New Mexican, I like to read the encyclopedia, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from a littler-sized town in New Mexico, lived there until I was 17 years old. I'm the youngest of 5 kids, and basically enjoy the small things in life like a well-placed water fountain, a good laugh at old memories, a long run on a hot afternoon in the hills of New Mexico, and time to sit and think about...everything. I love studying history, skiing, racquetball and ultimate frisbee. I have completed two years at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and will one day grow up and be a Marine. However, I'm taking a short break from that and am currently serving as a missionary in the greatest mission in the whole world California Santa Rosa.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is the true Church of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Intersessor. I have come to that knowledge because I have read the Book of Mormon and have pondered its message. I took my thoughts and feelings to my Father, who then confirmed the truth through the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Why do Mormons go on missions?

"Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, they they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah..." (2 Nephi 2:8).

How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?

Read 2 Nephi 2 and 9, Alma 5, 7, 40-42 and you'll see how the Book of Mormon shows the purpose of life.

How I live my faith

Well, I'm a full-time missionary and ambassabor of the Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. If you have any questions, find your nearest elders or sisters. They will be more than happy to help you out!

You definitely can learn about the Gospel of Christ (Faith, Repentence, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End) from the missionaries and then follow the steps to apply these in your life. When you truly live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you will do this thorugh the proper preisthood authority of God. A natural consequence is becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

I don't know. Quite honestly when labels are used I think this comes from someone's desire to quickly explain away something that they don't understand. If they really took a hard look at the church it would be easy to tell that Mormons do not blindly follow any human being. I think maybe someone who might use that label could look at the level of commitment and obedience found among the members of this church and casually explain this away as blind obedience. They certainly do not see the personal struggles and the effort that maintaining a personal relationship with God requires. Like most Mormons I think, I do what I do out of devotion and love. It may start out as duty and habit, but as I have come to know God and His mercy and love (the big picture) I can't help but want to keep the commandments. I don't follow a person, I follow God and His Son and they help me every step of the way.
