About Me

My friends call me Kat. I'm currently in college studying Communications. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I was just recently baptized on January 22, 2011 and enjoy going to church and reading scripture. I run, I like to read, write, and hang out with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon for several reasons. My conversion story is a long one but basically, I was raised Catholic, turned Agnostic for seven years, and then finally realized believing in nothing wasn't working for me. I was spiritually starving. Then one day this past October I ran into some Missionaries on my college campus, heard what that had to say, and completely fell in love with the church and found my way back to God. I can honestly say that I know the church is true and that by following the Lord, I have never been happier.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church every Sunday, going to Family Home Evening FHE every monday, and attending church events such as church dinners, roller skating parties, movie nights and many more events. I also share scripture with my friends and family and live out the word of God to the best of my ability.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Not all Mormons are required to serve a mission. Although, serving a mission I hear, is one of the best experiences one can have. And what better way to spread the word?? Missions are served all over the world and last for two years.

No. Every worthy young man is expected to serve a mission, though there is no punishment for not doing so. Also, not every young man is physically or mentally capable, so there are circumstances where a young man may be excused from service. Young women may also serve missions, but are not expected to do so.

Serving a mission means a full-time commitment, leaving family and friends to preach the gospel in a place assigned by the Church.

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

For us, baptism is a two way promise or covenant with our father in Heaven. We promise to obey his commandments, take upon ourselves the name of Christ, and to always remember him ((D&C 20:77-78) and he promises to give us a remission, or forgiveness for our sins and his spirit to guide us (3 Nephi 27:19-20). However, we must keep our promise to maintain the blessings offered by our Heavenly Father. Baptism is preceeded by faith in Jesus Christ and then repentance. Once we repent of our sins and change our lives, we enter into the waters of baptism. We believe in being baptized by immersion, by someone holding the authority of God (3 Nephi 11:19-27), and at an age of responsibility, when we can recognize the difference between right and wrong (the age of eight is set as when we can do this) (D&C 68:27). There is symbolism in baptism by immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ and also the death of our past lives and a rebirth where we are cleansed from sin (Romans 6:3-6). Baptism must also be followed by receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands (Acts 19:1-6).The Gift of the Holy Ghost is a second baptism by fire and completes the baptism by water (Matthew 3:11 and John 3:5).
