I like to play soccer, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, ultimate football and other things with my friends. I played the trumpet for 7 years and was in concert band for 6 1/2 years, marching band for 4 years, and jazz band for a little bit. I served a mission in Minnesota for two years. I'm a eagle scout.
I originally became a Mormon because I was born a member of the church. The reason I am still Mormon is because I decided to see for myself to see if the beliefs I had been taught was true or not. So, I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and prayed to Heavenly Father to get an answer for myself if it is true or not. Every decision that I make that is really crucial in life I make sure that I pray to Heavenly Father because he cannot lie to me. So if something is true than he will tell me that it is true. So that's why I'm a Mormon, because I pondered, searched and asked heavenly Father if this church is the true church. My answer was that this church is the true church. So I listened to Heavenly father instead of those around me because I knew that he would tell me what church is his church.
My family and I read the Book of Mormon every morning. That has brought us closer together as a family even though some mornings we wanted to sleep through it. We don't fight nearly as much and we are closer to each other now. We also say family prayers every morning and night.
It's helped me understand the Bible and Book of Mormon better. It's helped me grow closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. It gets me out of the house and interacting with people that share the same beliefs, and I love meeting new people at church. Going to church also allows me to serve other people. It tells us in the Bible that we should go to church. It helps to show my love for Jesus Christ as it is a way to show my obedience to him. If you haven't been to church in a there is no better time than the present to start going. Go to church because Jesus Christ has asked you to not because people have asked you to.
We go on missions because we've seen how the gospel has blessed our lives and how happy it's made us, and we want to share it with others. It's like when a little kid gets a bag of candy and they want to share it with the other kids around them. I served a mission because I saw how the gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me in my life. I've seen how my life is much happier because of it and I want to help others find that happiness that I've seen. I want them to be able to be with their family for all time and eternity, like I can with my family. I have seen the gospel bring families together that were about to fall apart. I've seen it save marriages. These are some of the reasons why I served a mission. There is nothing that can compare than serving a mission. You get so close to God. You can feel his presence with you as so teach his restored gospel. It is a great feeling that you can't even begin to explain when you help someone that you just met better their life. People pray to God for help to help them get closer to him because they feel like they aren't getting the whole picture in the religion that they are going to. They ask God's help to lighten their load. Well, God sends us to help these people and to answer their prayers. We don't even know why we felt like we need to see these people until they told us that they had prayed that morning. It's sad to see when people turn away from the answers that God has given to them.
Well to start off I am still alive. It's a miracle that I'm not dead right now. Growing up we lived next to a really busy street that was a main route for semis to travel. I would always chase balls into the road not wanting them to get run over and not thinking about myself. I probably have given several people heart attacks. I'm fortunate that I'm alive. I know that I'm alive because of lots of prayers from my parents and family for protection throughout the day. Sure, there are people that still die even if you pray for their protection. It was probably their time to go. When I was younger my mom, my little sister and I were on our way back home with a huge truck load of wood. While we were traveling the truck started to make noises and my sister started to cry. So my mom asked me to say a prayer, so I said a prayer. After the prayer my mom felt like she should pull over and turn the truck off. The second she did that my sister stopped crying, which gave my mom the feeling that we shouldn't drive the truck any further. So we started to walk down the road and a nice guy picked us up and took us to a gas station so that we could call a tow truck to get the truck and to call my uncle to come pick us up. When the tow truck got to our house he showed my mom the problem. All of the lug nuts were off but one. That one lug nut was barely on there. If we would have continued to drive we would have caused a huge accident in which all three of us would have died and probably would have killed some others. It would have stopped all of the traffic on the freeway. So no one can tell me that God doesn't answer our prayers. I know with all of my heart that God answers all of our prayers in his time and not ours.
Prayer plays a huge part in my life. I wouldn't be where I'm at if it weren't for prayer. Prayer to me is a way to talk to my Heavenly Father. Whenever I am going through a hard time I can pray to God and He will comfort me and let me know that all is going to be ok.
The Book of Mormon has brought me closer to God in several different ways. It has cleared some misunderstanding of the Bible. When I read the Book of Mormon I feel the same way that I feel when I read the Bible. Reading both of them helps us to learn more about God so that when can know how we can strengthen our relationship with him. I can't see any way it hasn't brought me closer to God. The Book of Mormon is scripture that was written with God's help.
Whenever I make a right choice I feel good about myself. This helps me to have a desire to continue making right choices. On the other hand whenever I make a wrong choice I feel like I have failed myself and don't have a desire to do anything. I try to rely on God to help me make right choices. He does allow me to keep my agency, so once in a while I will make mistakes. Whenever I do what God wants me to do I will always make right choices because he will never have me do anything wrong.
I love giving service and I serve my fellowman whenever there is a chance. I grew up doing service. I enjoy giving blood when there are blood drives in the area. I love going out to the church farm and thinning or picking the fruit because I know that the fruit will help someone out down the road, like when a disaster happens around the world.
