About Me

In Short, I'm a Martial Artist, Short Film-maker, Graphic Artist, Photographer, Snowboarder, Flowrider, Gamer, Camper, Hiker, Unicyclist, Juggler, Runner, Eater, and a Mormon. I decided to leave all of that behind so I could go on a mission for 2 years, because I know that the message this church brings is the most important REAL thing on earth. I've seen it bless many people, including myself. Without the church, I don't know where I'd be spiritually. Actually, ya, I do. I'd probably be lost. The church has always been here to help me with my spiritual well being, be my guide, and is a great place for me to learn about my Father in Heaven, as well as myself.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but that doesn't change the fact that I have to know for myself that the church is true. I read the Book of Mormon myself, and prayed to know if it's true. I recieved an answer that is was, and it just makes sense that it is. With all the different churches in the world today, all teaching different things, we needed a prophet for our time to show us the way. I know that Joseph Smith was called as a Prophet of God, and that we have a prophet today. To have that connection renewed with God is a spectacular thing that will help everyone in their lives if they only listen. The commandments we have recieved from God are here to protect us, and help us live happier lives. Those commandments have protected me from addictions, sin and unhappiness. Even when I haven't had a problem with the commandments, I've still been active because I know how much it blesses my life.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

The Book of Mormon has many hidden treasures. You can look anywhere you want and find something that will help you all throughout your life. Each time I open it, I find something new. I keep a study journal, and write down the reference, so that when I need it again, I can find it easily. Everything God wants us to do is in the Book of Mormon. So how can it not bring you closer to God?

Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?

As a missionary, my job is to invite others to come unto Christ, by helping them recieve the restored gospel through, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism, Recieving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. It's a full time activity. You may have had us knock on your door once!

How I live my faith

I currently live my faith by being a full time missionary. What that means, is I decided to become a missionary, and pay my own way to preach the gospel for 2 years. I recieve no payment from the church, but I do it because I know that without our message, people cannot live with their families or our Heavenly Father for eternity. I want others to recieve that same eternal happiness in their lives.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is an additional testimony of Jesus Christ. We use it because over time after Christ and his Apostles were killed, segments and doctrines in the Bible were changed or removed. Joseph Smith recieved and Translated the Book of Mormon as another document, similar to the Bible, so that those truths could be restored. It's a record of the people and Prophets in the American Continent during the same time frame as the Bible. Joseph Smith did not Write the Book of Mormon, he Recieved and Translated it. The Book of Mormon is just additional truth about Christ and his Ministry. It's important to know that Joseph Smith didn't WRITE the Book of Mormon, it was given him from God.

It is my conviction that if one simply examines the patterns and information given about holy writ in general that they ought to be inclined to ask and pray about whether or not the Book of Mormon is inspired. I say this because the Book of Mormon is not just a book of prayers or ethical teachings. The Book of Mormon is a historical record that has a deep and powerful impact on millions of people every single day. Religion aside, a book as influential and striking as the Book of Mormon is worth the investigation of anyone genuinely seeking truth. There are very few books that have entire study manuals, curriculum, books, thesis papers, scientific research, grammatical and literary research, live performances, and general discussion entirely about its content. The Bible might be the only other thing with as much extensive literature and documentation pertaining to its writings and doctrines. The Book of Mormon is at the very least intriguing when supplemented with archeological finds, external historical information, unique writing patters such as chiasmus, and overall literary competency and beauty found within the writing. From a non-religious stand point it is impressive, but from a religious perspective it is life changing. To have a testimony of a thing is powerful, but to hinge an entire belief system on 530 pages is another thing. To be so emotionally and spiritually connected to a thing is powerful, but when that thing is a book - that book must be something more than just written words. That book must be something inspired by God, preserved by His hand, and prepared by His grace. I believe that the Bible is one of those books. I also believe that the Book or Mormon is one of those books. There is no proving the Book of Mormon just like there is no proving the Bible. We believe that the teachings and doctrines found in the pages of the old and new testament are real and trustworthy. We cannot explain how, except perhaps the mercies and merit of God, the Bible was preserved for our days. But though we cannot explain it, we simply know it. If you ask any latter-day saint to prove the Book of Mormon to be true, they will simply reply that they cannot prove it, but they know it to be true. One should not demand evidence for the bible, they should read it study it and pray to know if it is true. It is the same for the Book of Mormon. Now the interesting thing about the Book of Mormon is that it something that you can feel, see, test, and try. It is real and tangible. I am confident that if anyone who is level headed and reasonable reads what is in the Book of Mormon and then simply asks if it is true that they will have a profound feeling come over them. But this feeling cannot come if there is an ulterior agenda for the reader. If you don't want it to be true or want to find flaws and errors in the text then you certainly will not obtain this profound feeling. You have to grant the fact that all things are indeed possible with God, and that he certainly could provide something more to draw us even closer to his will. Think of the Book of Mormon like the New Testament to the Jews. During the time of Paul and Peter, the Jews were very set in their ways. They had the Old Testament, and that was all that they felt that they needed for salvation. There was no mention of 12 apostles or a New Testament in the Old Testament; it was doctrines that were added upon to bring Gods children even closer to him. To say that the Bible is all that is needed is to say exactly what the Jews said about the teachings of Paul and the apostles. Must we be so quick to limit Gods ability to speak to us? Is it not a blessing to have more of his written word? I can understand a skeptic of The Book of Mormon. Many and man has tried to con the world into believing his new religion. But that is simply not the case with Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. I challenge anyone to read unbiased biographies about Joseph Smith and his character. Read the entries of the people who knew him and what they thought about his life and motives. What you will find is not a usurper or power, nor a charlatan, but rather an amazing individual whose life was taken in the pursuit of preaching revealed doctrines. The Book of Mormon is something that people have sacrificed their entire lives for. Its teachings have a daily effect of millions of people worldwide. Its doctrines bring peace and Joy to the hearts of the humble and faithful. The Book of Mormon is the Word of God. I have to doubt of that.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Because the Lord commanded it for a period of time. It wasn't easy for those who practiced it. Many, even Brigham Young (the second prophet after the death of Joseph Smith) had difficulty accepting the revelation. It took a great deal of soul searching and personal submission and communion with God for many of those individuals to reconcile themselves to the practice of plural marriage.

Even in ancient times, when the practice was culturally accepted, plural marriage was difficult. Moses, Abraham, and many others who practiced plural marriage because of God's commandment all experienced personal challenges arising from their family situation. But sometimes life is such: God requires difficult things. The difficulties never seem appealing to us, but if we are faithful, we will find that God had reasons for the challenges He gave us.
