Hayley: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Hayley

I am a college student. Family is most important to me. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello! My name is Hayley, I am grew up in Idaho but I am attending college in Utah. I have 2 loving parents that have been married for 30 years, and four siblings that I hold dear to my heart! I love learning new things! I love learning about different cultures and customs especially. I also love learning new crafts. I can get lost in antique shops and museums for hours. I guess one could say I appreciate 'old things'. I also have a passion for music. I love almost any type of music but classical music is my favorite. And of course I love the mormon tabernacle choir

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to be born into an LDS family, but I was still able to choose whether or not I wanted to become a member of the church at age 8. I chose to be baptized and officially become a member! I did this because I love the church and I know it is true. 8 years old seems so young to be able to make a decision like that but I felt it was right. I feel that even more now! I always tried to keep high standards growing up but it wasn't until I was 14 years old that I really really knew for myself the church was true. It was the year President Hinckley challenged all the youth to read the book of mormon. I had never read it cover to cover. So that summer I read it and I also attended my first session of especially for youth, a week long summer camp for youth ages 14-18. My testimony of the gospel grew so much that summer! Since leaving home and coming to a non-lds school my testimony has grown even more. I had to make a concious decision that I was going to stay active and participate in church. It has benefitted me so much. I know the church is true and I know it can change lives. The Book of Mormon is the keystone to the church and to my testimony. I promise that reading that book will bring a peace into your life that you have never ever felt before. The power of prayer is real. Even the simplest little things, He hears and always has your best interest at heart. I am so grateful for repentance and the healing it can bring to a family, or a wounded soul. I know that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ, and I know that he translated the Book of Mormon correctly. I know the things written in that book are true and are mean to help us in these days. I know Heavenly Father loves me, and knows me better than I know myself. I know that Christ suffered for my sins and knows exactly how I feel at any minute and I am SO grateful to Him for that. I love this gospel so much! It brings so much joy and hope to me.

Personal Stories

Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?

I haven't gone on at 18 month mission yet but I was able to go on kind of a "mini mission" this past summer! I participated in the Hill Cumorah pageant in Palmyra, NY where Joseph Smith found the plates. It was the best 3 weeks of my entire life. Before the pageant each night, as members of the cast we were assigned a companion and we were able to go out and teach members of the audience! That was my favorite part of the pageant, sharing the gospel with the people that came and feeling the spirit so strongly as they agreed to fill out a referral card or just the look they get in their eyes when someone is testifying to them. I so admire all the full time elders and sister missionaries, they are so brave!!

How has attending Church services helped you?

Going to church for 3 hours seems like a long time but I find it to be so good. Kind of like recharging my batteries from the past week and thinking about life. Sometimes I swear every talk or lesson given chruch was for me. Like Heavenly Father tailored every lesson and every talk to be about something I need to work on or appreciate more. I always come out of church feeling so good about myself, and about life in general. If you open your heart during the services you will feel the spirit testify to you about what is being taught! It is amazing.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday by trying my best to be a good example to those around me. I once heard a quote and I can't remember who said it but it goes, "bear your testimony every day, when necessary, use words."
