Hi, I'm Lainie
I grow blackberries. I love to mow the lawn. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am a daughter of God. He has blessed me with 5 precious children and a wonderful husband. I enjoy the time spent with them doing whatever needs to be done. Some of my favorites include sports especially basketball, gardening, home imrovement projects, baking, and learning. I am a work in progress, ever learning, ever striving to grow. I love education. It is so fulfilling to awake each day ready to glean from it the lessons it has to offer me and to aid my children an those around me in the same. Life is indeed a beautiful journey.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because I have discovered for myself that the true gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth. My favorite part of the gospel is that each of us can go to God in prayer and ask Him to answer our questions about truth, the scirptures and personal issues. Being a loving Father, He always answers in the way that is best for us. He has done this repeatedly in my life. I know of the power of Jesus Christ's sacrifice. I love the principle of repentance. As I stumble I know what to do, who to turn to, so that I can stand up, clean off the dust and press forward in my quest to return to live with God. Christ is my Savior. I love the scriptures, all of them. I love the purity of the Book of Mormon. It's teachings and stories come to my mind in times of need and direct me on my path of life. I feel especially blessed to know that Thomas S. Monson is our current Prophet on the earth today. Through him and the apostles I am given counsel and instruction that helps me navigate today's issues and circumtances. God has a plan for me, for all of us. I have so much peace in my life because of this knowledge. Because of this and so much more, I am a Mormon.
Personal Stories
What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?
Over the years we have devolped a habit of daily scripture study as a family. Studying the scriptures together each day provides a time for all of us to focus our minds and hearts on those things that matter most. It gives us a platform to discuss important principles that we want to live as a family. It is also fun. THe kids love acting out the stories and guessing what will happen next during the exciting parts. It also challenges me as a parent to really understand the scriptures and to admit when I don't know something and then to study it further on my own. We also have a family night each week. We love seeing the fun activities and thoughtful lessons our children create. It is so important for our family to have all sorts of moments together serious, goofy, active, reverent, happy, sad, relaxing and intense so that we can help each other learn the importance of balance in life. All of these experiences create an environment in our home where open honest communication is encouraged and valued with each and every member of the family.
How I live my faith
Currently I get to work with several interfaith groups in my community. We work with several congregations, faiths, and community organizations to prepare different events throughout the year such as a children's festival, a retreat for women in religious leadership, opportunities for individuals to visit different worship services of differing faiths in order to better understand beliefs and practices. I am also the Co-Den Mother for my son's Cub Scout group and an active member of the PTO at my children's schools. I also enjoy organizing our annual neighborhood street party. One of my favorite activities is being able to reach out to dear friends on a regular basis to see how they are doing and see if I can help them in any way. I feel so much comes from serving others. I know God wants us to serve one another. I also can say that I have been a blessed recipient of much love and service over the years.
