Hi, I'm David
I grew up in Texas and love a good barbecue and game of ultimate frisbee. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a college student studying to become a Dentist. At the moment I'm a missionary for my church. I love helping families become more happy by helping them learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them to not only understand what Jesus taught but live it so that they can be a happy, unified family. Some of the things I love doing are playing guitar and piano, singing, playing ultimate frisbee, playing all sports in general, and doing crazy things like making a short college video series called "the dorms" with a bunch of my friends. I love to learn and that's why I also hope to start my own businesses on top of being a Dentist. I also love to spend time with my friends and family through watching movies together, going to concerts, going to the beach, going laser tagging, playing video games, or any other number of fun things.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon simply for the reason that I know that the Book of Mormon is true. And since it is true, that means that Joseph Smith is a prophet, and that this is the Lord's Church. How did I come to such a conclusion? Well, I read the entire Book of Mormon, I studied the doctrine and I ultimately prayed about it and received an answer from the Holy Ghost. A wonderful emotion and feeling or joy, calmness, and peace to such a degree that I KNOW it had to come from somewhere else. Because I know truth, I live it. Truth bring happiness and freedom. It brings peace and calmness into our lives. And because I receive all of that from what I have learned to be true from the Book of Mormon, I am a Mormon and a follower of Jesus Christ.
Personal Stories
How does making right choices help us make more right choices?
It is a snowball effect. Just a like snowball rolling down a hill, it will keep gathering more and more snow. When we see that living by the Gospel brings happiness, then the desire to live by more of the truth will come. When we know one commandment from God really brings happiness, we have a desire to find if all the commandments will bring us happiness. That's how I came to know that the Church is Jesus Christ's church. I lived one principle taught by the Church, and found it to be true. So next I lived another and another principle and before you know it, I was living almost all of the principles and teachings of the church. They were all true! Sometimes it took a time for me to see that it was right and true, and other times I wanted to give up, but I kept going back to those first things I learned that were true and remembering that if I got an answer the first time, I'll get an answer the second time. I am still learning even today.
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost has helped me to make difficult decisions in my life. Sometimes I do not know what is really the best choice for me, but God does and he will reveal to me through the Holy Ghost. For instance, I was trying to choose which college I should go to. I looked at all the benefits of each of the different colleges. I studied out which one I thought would be right. I then went to God in prayer many nights and prayed to know. I got an answer that was different than what I wanted to hear, but I know God does not lie. So I went with the feeling I got and it turned out to be the best decision in my life! Another example is that the Hold Ghost will lead us to be instruments in God's hands so that we can help others. Many times over the past several months I have been trying to be better at finding opportunities to help other people. I've prayed to be able to do that a lot lately. I have found that as I pray for these opportunities and think about them through out the day, the Hold Ghost leads me to people that need my help. More than once someone's name that I know has come into my head with a feeling that they needed someone or something at that moment. Every time I have followed those promptings, I have always been lead to someone who really needed help. One was a woman who just lost one of her children in a fire and I was there to comfort her. She told me she had just prayed that God would send someone to comfort her. Another was a mother with 5 kids who suddenly became very ill and I was able to help her out with her kids she too had prayed for help. I've also been sent to people to help them overcome trials at the last minute. More than one person I've been sent to by the Holy Ghost I have been able to help them not choose to do drugs or other harmful things to their bodies because I showed up just before they made a bad choice.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by simply keeping the commandments. I try my hardest to live by every truth I have ever learned from God. Right now I am a missionary for my church. I volunteered to do this for 2 years. I put aside all my friends, family, educational goals, and everything else for these two years, so that I can serve the Lord. I even spent $10,000 in order to serve this mission. When I am done, I will go back to studying at college and preparing myself for the future. Right now I go out and I talk to people about how God has revealed another testament of Jesus Christ. I try to help people learn and live what Jesus taught. I help people to improve their lives through the restored Gospel. I visit members of the church who are going through hard times and try to serve them and lift their spirits. I try to serve the communities by volunteering my help and assistance in any way or capacity. Ultimately, I try to live my life as if Jesus Christ were living my life. I try to do what he would do. I try to make it so that all people who meet me know that I am a disciple of Christ.
