I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife and stay-at-home mom of three children. I am a college graduate with a BA in Communication. The majority of my time is spent caring for my family but I try to take the time to cultivate my own interests. I sing opera, I am writing a book, I sew clothing for my children and myself, I play volleyball and basketball as often as I can, and I love to read.

My life is full and I am blessed with work. There are many things that I like to do but my husband and children bring me the greatest joy and happiness. Time spent with them is the most important and fulfilling than any acitvities I undertake for my own enjoyment.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I cannot know these things and not act upon them. Because I know these things to be true, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

My testimony is an anchor for me. Many of my decisions have been based upon what the Savior would want me to do. I continually work on my testimony to strengthen it. As I continue to strengthen my testimony I also strengthen my family. Living the gospel of Jesus Christ brings happiness and harmony to my home.

How I live my faith

On Sunday I work in the nursery with children ages 18 months to 3 years old. Amidst the chaos, each Sunday we try to teach the children that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love them. They learn how to pray, how to be kind, and they learn that they are loved. Most of the time they don't respond to what we teach but I know they are learning because my own 2 year old son comes home from nursery singing songs about Christ and pointing out pictures of the Savior.

I am also a member of a regional cultural arts committee. We work to create stage productions, choir concerts, and art exhibits that share the gospel of Jesus Christ. These events are an opportunity to share our believes through the arts with those of other denomenations.

Living my faith is more than a Sunday activity. Truly living the gospel of Jesus Christ is a daily focus on family, service, kindness, charity, and patience. I live my faith by trying to be more Christ like each day. Some days I fail, but the gospel teaches me that I can keep trying to better myself.

Are Mormons Christians?

I love this question. Having lived in Georgia and having spent time creating friendships with people of all different Christian denominations. I can say with great confidence and vigor that, Yes, Mormons are Christians. All who believe in Christ as our Savior and strive to follow in his footsteps, living as he would have us to, are in definitions Christian or followers of Christ.

Christ said that his followers would be defined by their adherence to his teachings. Growing up as a member of the Church, I learned that Christ is The literal son of God and that through His Atonement we can somehow be forgiven of our sin and allowed to enter back into the presence of God, if that is what we want. Everything I ever learned at church or in my home was centered on the life and ministry of Christ.

Several years ago, we moved to the Southeastern United States and encountered the idea that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints are not Christians. Although I don't understand the need to define certain groups in or out of Christianity, especially given The Lord's frequent admonitions not to judge the faith of others, I understand this idea is rooted in some esoteric academic objections to certain gospel principles such as our belief that Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are separate individuals united in purpose and power. My experience has been that this idea is often passed on among those who have not met or do not have close relationships with members of the church.

Once people get to know what we teach and believe and how we live, they come to understand that we are Christians. While, The Lord has asked us to let our light shine so that others can see it and take strength from it, I believe that ultimately Christ, will judge our Christianity as individuals based on the thoughts and intents or our hearts.

What is the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

We believe that God loves all of His children and that none of us are mistakes. Earth life is a time for us to meet challenges and overcome our weaknesses as we rely on the Lord. We are all unique, and so it makes sense that different people have different challenges. Just because one challenge seems harder than another, that doesn't limit God's ability to help us understand and overcome it.

As disciples of Christ, we are to love everyone and look for the goodness in everything. The family is central to God's plan. Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and this relationship allows us to grow closer to God. Marriage is more about what you can offer and sacrifice for your spouse than for what you can receive out of it.
