About Me

I'm married with two children. My hobbies span from computer tech stuff, model airplanes to boy scout activities. I would suppose I would be considered a "handyman" type guy. I'm currently in home construction work.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I was a Mormon I would ponder as I suppose everyone does in life to why in life do things happen. With that I would also ponder how nearly all religions state that there is one God to all creation. Agreeing with that statement I'd somehow concluded that there's a real possibility that our one God would have a church of his own on the earth. That possibility became a reallity to me when my Mormon neighbor eighteen years ago shared with me the message of the restoration. Why I'm a Mormon to me is because it simply answers to why I'm here.

Personal Stories

How has attending Church services helped you?

I know that the magnatude of blessings is very much dependent on the level of effort one applies to keeping the commandments. I have recieved blessings in my family's life as well as my own resulting from church participation.

How I live my faith

I know we should help each other both in my own family and the community. I know I'm able to do that best through prayer and scripture study taking action from inspiration recieved. Also important is to have faith in the thirteen Articles of Faith found in the scriptures the church utilizes. I have a testimony that leaders in the church are called of God. I have been blessed when I have followed their council in living my faith.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No. Every worthy young man is expected to serve a mission, though there is no punishment for not doing so. Also, not every young man is physically or mentally capable, so there are circumstances where a young man may be excused from service. Young women may also serve missions, but are not expected to do so.

Serving a mission means a full-time commitment, leaving family and friends to preach the gospel in a place assigned by the Church.

Quite simply, no. The young men of the church have been strongly encouraged to serve a mission at age 19, and the sisters are able to serve at age 21, but no one is required to serve. We do it because we want to! Who in their right mind would give up two years and pay that's right, missionaries pay their own way to go somewhere they had never been and do all that they do? We serve missions becuase we know that Jesus is the Christ, and we want the happiness that knowledge bring to be available to everyone! So no, Mormons are not required to serve a mission. It's a personal choice to share the happiness and joy they've received from the Gospel.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was a great man and we revere him as such because of the great and important things he accomplished. We do not worship Joseph Smith or serve him. We study about his life, because of the great significance of Joseph Smith's first vision and the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the priesthood authority. It is a series of remarkable historical events.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Rochester, New York on a business trip and I found time to visit the nearby town of Palmyra and the Sacred Grove. I was able to see and study and review the circumstances surrounding the events and experiences of Joseph Smith. This was no chance happening or coincidence.

We worship Our Heavenly Father and His Son, the resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ.
