Sarah: stay at home mom, mexican american, biracial, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Sarah

I worked in audio & video production. I am a mother to 3 boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated college with a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism but knew that the kind of life a journalist faces is not conducive to being home with a family. I chose a different career in audio and video production. After several years of marriage with no children, we had our first son which brought about some tough decisions. Financially, I had to work though I always wanted to stay at home with my kids. After much prayer, we decided that my husband would work early days and I would work nights so at least one of us could be at home to raise our children. It was a very tough schedule but it was very important to us to be there for our kids. Six years and two more sons later, I am now able to stay at home with my boys and I am loving it!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon but as a teenager, I felt the need to decide if the gospel I was living was true or not. I earnestly prayed and studied and gradually came to the conclusion that all of the gospel's principles brought me happiness. I also felt the Spirit testify to me of the gospel's truthfulness. After that test of faith, I committed myself to continue following the gospel.

Personal Stories

How has the Holy Ghost helped you?

That indescribable warm and fuzzy feeling of the Holy Ghost helps me daily. When interacting with my children, they often have questions or events where I feel the Spirit so strongly. In these moments, a thought comes to my mind that I need to teach them and I feel led in the words that I say to them. Without the Holy Ghost, I may miss these opportunities to teach important principles.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?

Jesus Christ has taught so many things that has influenced me but the one that stands out the most is about love. Love one another. There is no limitation on that commandment. Love your family. Love your friends. Love your co-workers, neighbors and strangers. Love means to be kind and to serve each other. Knowing that I am commanded to love everyone and that Christ loves them too, gives me a new perspective on how to handle frustrating situations and how to treat each person.

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

There are some specific activities that we do that helps our family. We read scripture stories and talk about how it relates to our lives now. We pray together over meals and at bedtime. We attend church every Sunday and discuss what we learned. We also practice being patient and forgiving. I often remind myself as well as my sons that we have a family to be loved and happy. We consciously try to have fun together.

How I live my faith

In my 11 years of service in the church, I have served 9 of them in the organization for teenage girls called Young Women. I love the youth and helping them build their testimony like I did when I was their age. I currently received a new assignment to teach the adult women lessons. I also visit three other women on a monthly basis to befriend and serve them.
