Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. I went to primary. I went to Young Women's. I attended early morning seminary during high school. I attended church every week. At first it was because I knew my parents wanted me to. Then I started to gain my own testimony. When I would learn about the Savior and what he did for us I would feel something. I was taught since I was little that it was the still small voice of the Holy Ghost testifying that it was the truth. When I read the scriptures daily I feel a difference in the way I live and the way I act toward others. I feel my Savior's love and know that I am never alone. He is always there for me when no one else is. By reading the Book of Mormon I am able to become closer to Christ. Why not keep doing the good when I know when I am choosing the right I feel good and want to be a better person? I know that His teachings are real. I know that if I am righteous I can be with my family forever.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?

While the Savior was on the Earth he was the perfect example of Love. He showed his love by caring for others. He was always willing to teach others. He was always willing to listen to others. He was always willing to love those that hated him and betrayed him. He was always willing to look at the good that people did. The Savior was a perfect example to the first commandments given to us. The first is to Love the Lord thy God. The second is to Love thy neighbor as thyself. He did this even when people turned on Him. We shall read about Christ and become more like him.

How I live my faith

We have always been taught to read our scriptures, say our personal prayers, attend Family Home Evening, and attend church. These are simple things that we can do to become closer to Christ. By doing these things I can feel His love. I have also learned to serve. Christ served His whole life. I have learned that if I serve others I forget about my troubles and focus on others. When I am serving others I am serving my Heavenly Father.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

The name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since the beginning we have needed a Savior. We have needed someone that will come to earth to be that perfect example for us. We needed someone to follow our Heavenly Father's plan. We needed someone to atone for our sins and suffer for our pains and afflictions. Because He suffered for our sins and afflictions and died for us we are able to Repent. We are able to become forgiven of our sins. By being forgiven of our sins we are able to become like Him and return to our Heavenly Father's presence.

There are doctrinal answers to why we believe we need a Savior to redeem us from the Fall of Adam and to return us to our Father in Heaven that you'll probably come across here. But let me tell you why I need a Savior personally and what He does for me. Christ suffered personally for my pains, sorrows, and sins so that if I ask Him too, He can take them from me. I have been the victim of abuse in my life, and yet through Him I have been able to lay it all at His feet, freely forgive, feel peace, find love, and understand how important negative life experiences can be in teaching us humility. Daily He takes my pain and replaces it with pure love so that I am no longer a victim, but a victor. I need a Savior because He knows me, and through him my flaws become strengths and my pain becomes peace.

Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

There are absolutely no race or color restrictions in the church. When Jesus was here in the earth, he said that he came here to save the sinners. The last time I checked, all the people in the world, it doesn't matter color or race, are sinners. The church is a place where people can come closer to Christ. There are no restrictions to who can come in. Anybody that has a desire to come closer to Christ, has the right to come closer to Him.
