Why I am a Mormon

I have read both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. They are both inspired of God and testify that Jesus is the Christ and that our Heavenly Father loves all of his children!

Personal Stories

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

Every Monday Night we have Family Home Evening. That is an exciting time where we spend the night together as a family. Sometimes we go to the park, sometimes we have a lesson about a scripture story, sometimes we play charades, and sometimes we bake cookies. The main thing is that we spend time together, we talk, and have fun. This has been a great bonding experience for our family.

How I live my faith

Through serving in the church, I have formed many friendships and our family has been greatly blessed.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

In a word, No. Mormons worship Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. Joseph Smith was nothing more than an inspired prophet who was an instrument in the Lord's hands to restore the true gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth.

Saying that Joseph Smith is the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint (LDS) may cause a misunderstanding for some. LDS doctrine teaches that Jesus Christ is the head of the church, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same church that existed in Old Testament and New Testament times. The "of Latter-day Saints" in the church's name denotes that this is the last dispensation before Jesus Christ's Second Coming, or the last period of time in which the Lord has at least one authorized servant on the earth who bears the keys of the holy priesthood. The Old Testament and New Testament discuss various dispensations when Christ's church existed on the earth in its authentic state.

So, what is the importance of Joseph Smith in relation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. He was simply a man called to speak for the Lord and played a key role in the restoration of Christ's church here upon the earth in these latter-days. Like Noah, Abraham, and Moses, we do not worship Joseph Smith, but study his life and teachings to better understand the will of God. Joseph Smith may had been a leader, but he was not and is not the head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The head of the church is clearly stated in the church's name. The Church of "Jesus Christ" of Latter-day Saints

What is a ward/stake/branch?

To make the administration of this world-wide church possible, the church is organized into geographical regions and sub-regions. The most basic administrative unit is called the "ward". The wards in the church vary in size but are comprised of a geographical area with anywhere from 300 to 700 members. The ward is presided by a bishop. A group of five to twelve wards are combined to form a "stake". A stake is presided by a stake president.
In regions of the world where there is a lesser concentration of members, "branches" are formed. These branches are equivalent to wards but usually have less members. A branch is presided by a branch president.
This organization makes it possible for 14 million members to each have local leaders that can provide guidance, teaching, and administering of the sacred ordinances of the gospel
