I live in New England and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a rural area of New England where my family were the only Mormons in our town. My mother was a homemaker and my father was in the logging industry. I went out west to college where I met my husband and obtained a degree in teaching. We have since returned to New England and are raising our family in the "mission field". I am an early interventionist teacher working with young children with special needs. I love my job! I am a mother as well and find joy in that most noble role. I love to be active and two of my favorite activities are jogging and playing tennis. I also enjoy reading and being with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a firm belief that true happiness is found in living God's commandments. Being a mormon or member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been a blessing in my life. I find much joy and peace in living the gospel principles and focusing my life on my family and striving to follow the Lord's example. I know that Heavenly Father knows each of his children personally and hears and answers their prayers. He loves us and wants us to be happy!
I believe Jesus Christ to be my Savior, our Savior, and that by following his teachings and trying to be like him, I grow closer to being what he intended me to be.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has brought a peace and comfort that I have not found elsewhere. Despite the trials and struggles I may have, and have experienced, I know the Lord is there to comfort me, strengthen me, and to give me guidance.

How I live my faith

I am an active member of my local ward. I look forward to Sundays and to feeling the Holy Spirit. It gives me the boost I need to make it through the following week. I assist in organizing events, lessons, and activities for the women of the church. Through attendance at church and activities, I have made close associations with other women of my faith and count them as some of my dearest friends.
On a daily perspective, I attempt to live my faith by doing those things that will bring me closer to Christ, reading the scriptures, personal prayer, loving and caring for my family, treating everyone as the person they are...a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father. I try to do those things that the Lord would have me to do.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

The Church considers homosexuality a sinful practice that is engaged in via the agency of the individuals involved. What I mean is that those who participate in homosexual activities make the choice to do so. No one is born gay as that would be contrary to God’s plan of happiness for His children. Nor would He (God) place someone on earth who was wholly incapable of keeping His commandment pertaining to sexual conduct. Our Heavenly Father has revealed that sex (all forms of intimate relations) are to be exercised only between a man and a woman who are legally married to one another and in no other forum. The genders of the two parties and the exclusivity of their participation in sexual activity is central to acceptable obedience to God’s commands in this area. Additionally the first commandment given to Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden was to “multiply & replenish the earth”. This important commandment is thwarted by homosexuality. While it is no secret that many (including members of the Church) struggle with feelings of same sex attraction this does not (nor will it) change what God has revealed. As a result the Church has (& will continue) spoken out on this subject all the while insisting that the “one man, one woman, married” paradigm is God’s design for the happiness & destiny of all of His children. As far as the importance of the topic goes it is certainly relevant as numerous members of the Church struggle with homosexual feelings or actions.

It is my understanding that as long as an individual does not act on homosexual feelings or tendencies (there’s the agency again/the ability to choose) and conducts himself or herself in accordance with God’s commands no disciplinary measures are taken and standing within the Church is maintained. Members who engage in homosexuality on the other hand face disciplinary measures that may restrict their membership in the Church or remove their membership altogether.

Many people are aware the Church has been active in causes that support marriage as a union between one man and one woman. This institution supports the traditional family composed of a father, a mother, and children. Since we believe the family to be the basic unit of society and the foundation upon which good communities and nations are built we are concerned with any institution that strikes against that model. Homosexuality and same-sex marriage is incompatible with our understanding of the plan God has for His children.
