About Me

I'm a family physician in a small town, Dad to four great kids, married to the love of my life Lori since 1995. I like to spend my spare time flyfishing in one of the amazing trout streams that surround the area where I live.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the faith, and continue to follow it as best I can because I believe in its doctrines, principles, and power to lead to a full and happy life. No religion guarantees happiness but mine seems to give people a much better chance!

How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?

Well, aside from the plain and simple doctrine contained in it, which help me understand God and his plan for mankind, I love how the Book of Mormon is a tangible, simple "test" of the validity of my religion. It is either exactly what it says it is, or a complete fake. Because of the historical facts surrounding its origins, it has to be one or the other. Logic dictates that there really isn't anything in the middle. Because I have come to believe in my heart that the book is what it claims to be, I find it easy to place faith in a lot of other facets of my religion. It truly is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ," proving to anyone who wants to know who He really is. That, to me, is remarkable.

How I live my faith

I preside over a group of men about my age in our congregation. We try to perform service, teach one another, and encourage one another to stay on track.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Of all the titles He carries, the grandest and most accurate is that of Father. Like any good father, He loves, teaches, admonishes, and even chastises his children when it is in their best interest. He watches over them, guides them, joys in their successes, weeps at their failures and their pain. Perhaps most importantly, He knows each of them, individually, and knows what each of them needs, even better than they know it themselves.

This question is easily answered in the words of one of the children's songs "I know my [Heavenly] Father lives, and loves me too". We believe in a loving God, who knows us each individually. Another way I know that God loves me because he has heard and answered my prayers many times. Some people think that God is angry, but I do not believe that is so. Matthew 7:11 reads, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those that ask him?" I think that just explains it all- as parents we want the best for our children. God, our Heavenly parent, wants the best for us, too. As parents, we recognize that giving our children everything they ask for isn't necessarily what's best for them. God does this for us also.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

In my opinion the real reason people say the Mormon Church is a cult because they don't understand. saying that it is a cult is an easy way to excuse themselves from learn more about it. Its like saying "sushi is slimy raw dead fish" or "computers are of the devil" its easy not to try / learn about stuff if you pair it with a negative word like "devil" or " slimy raw dead fish"
