Ashlee: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Ashlee

I grew up in California. I am a daughter of God. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a college student, still figuring out what field I want to study. I have been a member of this church for 4 years. I love to be with family and friends, watch movies, play games, play soccer, read, and listen to music. I am a very dedicated and hard working person. I try to stay positive and never give up.

Why I am a Mormon

My family on my dad's side have Mormon ancestors all the way back to the original foundation with Joseph Smith. However, as a child I never knew much about the church. I was raised Catholic by my mother because at the time my dad was not around much. Most of his family had gone inactive and still are, except his grandpa who has become active again. However, my dad had been blessed in the LDS church and therefore as a child he would get visits from missionaries, but was not interested in joining the church at that time. To make a long story short, my parents end up getting together and married when I was 13 years old. My mom tried often to get my dad to come to the Catholic church with us, but he would not. One weekend as we were on a camping trip with some of their old friends, my parents realized they weren't the same people and had developed different interests over the years. It started out as a joke when my mom once again asked my dad to go to church and he said that we should go to 'his' church because he was a 'Mormon by default' since so many of his family had been members. However, we took him seriously and decided to take a look into the LDS church. We say the missionaries riding along the street and stopped them and asked them to come by and teach us. After receiving the lessons we all felt it was the right thing for us to do. We knew the missionaries had been put in our paths multiple times for a reason and we were finally ready to accept the message. We were baptized as a family the end of my freshman year in High School. The church has been such a wonderful blessing in my life. It helped me get through my high school years and I have developed many wonderful friendships. I have also come to know that I am a daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves me and I know this is the true gospel. I know that Jesus Christ is my brother who suffered and died for my sins, and the atonement can work for me if I repent.

Personal Stories

Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?

When I was younger I was separated from my siblings due to family complications. For 10 years I was not able to have contact with my two younger brothers and older sister, but I always had faith that it was for a reason and that I would see them again. When I turned 18 and with the help of family, friends and the church I was able to gain contact with my sister again. The church had touched both our lives and both of us being members of this church have helped up to move past the things of the past and begin to develop a new relationship. We have both learned the importance of forgiveness and we recognize the blessing and the hand of God in our lives.

How I live my faith

Since I joined the Church when I was in High School I was able to participate in the Young Women Program. I was able to serve in leadership positions, learn, grow, and develop qualities that will help me in the future. As a college student I attend a church school and regularly attend my church meetings. I was previously a visiting teaching supervisor, so I checked in on the girls in my ward and see how they were doing with their visiting teaching. As a visiting teacher I also visited two girls in my ward and taught them a short gospel lesson as well as got to know them better. The wonderful activities and programs I have been involved in through the church has enriched my life and I continue to serve those around me in and out of the church.
