About Me

Well my name is Brenton and right now I am in college in Indianapolis, and now right now I am getting ready for the church. I do many things that I think are fun and stay with what I believe to be right. One of these is swing dancing and I cannot get enough of it and I feel like I have to do it all the time. I do a lot with the programs at my school since i am on the program board and just meeting many people of other faiths and sharing my own faith.

Why I am a Mormon

I am "Mormon" because I was first off born into the gospel and I have to say I have had to figure out my faith after my father's stroke and it has made me make an understanding of Jesus Christ, his and our father in heaven, and why it is important to have modern prophets.

How I live my faith

I live my faith on everywhere. Every day of the week I read my scriptures to understand the Lord more and more, I use what I gain to try to improve myself everyday. Right now I am just a home teacher and take care of a few people in a ward. I go do the YSA here and it is fun because many of us have never grown up with each other so it seems even though i have grown in this church i have always meeting many new Mormons.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The word of wisdom is a passage of scripture that came to be because Emma Smith asked if chewing tabbaco was something to do when you are talking to the Lord. So when it was received we have scripture that told what we should and should not use. Now with today's technology we have found various reasons why its bad to drink beer. smoke tabbaco, tea, coffee, eating too much meat and this is a lot with why Jews do drink and eat certain things.

The word of wisdom is the Lord's law of health. We abstain from drugs, tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea, and are encouraged to eat wholesome food and grains, and not eat excessive meat. I am asked all of the time by my fellow residents at the hospital why I don't drink coffee, and how I can stay awake all night on call without it. I don't consider it a sacrifice, though, and am as awake and perform as well as any. It is true that the body will be more healthy when following the word of wisdom, the but the main benefit is spiritual. The knowledge that you are in line with the the Lord's teaching is the most important thing.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Because the Lord commanded it for a period of time. It wasn't easy for those who practiced it. Many, even Brigham Young (the second prophet after the death of Joseph Smith) had difficulty accepting the revelation. It took a great deal of soul searching and personal submission and communion with God for many of those individuals to reconcile themselves to the practice of plural marriage.

Even in ancient times, when the practice was culturally accepted, plural marriage was difficult. Moses, Abraham, and many others who practiced plural marriage because of God's commandment all experienced personal challenges arising from their family situation. But sometimes life is such: God requires difficult things. The difficulties never seem appealing to us, but if we are faithful, we will find that God had reasons for the challenges He gave us.
