Benjamin: Missionary, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Benjamin

I grew up in Utah, I do Parkour, I have 10 siblings, and I'm a Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

About Me

I spend most of my freetime doing parkour and freerunning. Parkour is basically the fastest way from point A to point B, like running up walls, jumping fences, and jumping from building to building. Freerunning is almost the same thing but doing flips and tricks. I also love videogames, spending time with my family, and helping others.

Why I am a Mormon

I may have grown up in the church but that isn't why I'm Mormon. When I was about thirteen I started to question everything I had been taught. I had little desire to pray, and no desire to read scriptures or go to church. At one point I would use even a runny nose to claim that I was sick and couldn't go to church. The times that I convinced my parents not to make me go I felt something missing. At the time I justified it thinking I just had to get used to it because I had gone my whole life.
That summer I had the opportunity to go to Especially for Youth efy. The best way to describe it simply is a week at a college campus where you have fun getting to know others around your age, and get taught spiritually. I had the desire to go because my older siblings went the year before and had an amaizing experience. While I was there I enjoyed every minute of it. Near the end of the week they challenged my group to pray to know if God was there and if Joseph Smith was a prophet. I took that challenge and got down on my knees that night and prayed. I couldn't tell if I had gotten my answer or not and just went to sleep.
The next day they had a musical program made up of anyone that wanted to join and a video about Jesus Christ. It was during that time that I got my answer, a feeling came over me that's hard to describe. It filled my whole soul and I knew that God was there and that Joseph Smith was called by him to restore his church on the earth today! It was the first time in my life that I almost cried over something spiritual! I can still remember that feeling today and have felt it many times since then, and that is why I'm Mormon!

Personal Stories

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

There are many reasons why I share the gospel with my friends. Imagine that you have an unlimited supply of icecream that is healthy for you, it's flavor is dependant on the person who is eating it, and everytime you ate some you felt like a million dollars. Wouldn't you want to be able to share that with everyone around you. That icecream is what the gospel is for all who are willing to try it. I've seen the gospel bless my life in every way. It has strengthened my family relationships. It has helped me concentrate and get good grades in school. I has helped me develope a strong work ethic to be able to hold a job. It has helped me make the right decission during hard times and has kept me out of major trouble. It has increased my joy in helping other people around me. It has given me a knowledge of what happens to loved ones that have passed on that has helped me to be able to overcome the sadness of their loss. It has helped me to be a more Christlike person and many more things. I want to be able to see other people have these blessings in their lives.
It is also a commandment that we share this message with everyone. Our Father in Heaven wants to bless the lives of all of his children. He can only do so when they are on the right path, and they can only be on the right path if they know which path is right. God uses us to show that path to others, but can only do so if we are willing to do his will.
Right now I am sharing the gospel by serving a full time mission in the Portland, Oregon area. It has been a major blessing to be able to help others change their lives for the better. That alone has added to my desire to share with all of Gods children.

How I live my faith

I do my best to follow the example of Jesus Christ by helping others in need, and sharing his Gospel with anyone who is willing to listen. I uplift and encourage my friends to do what is right. Other than that I love doing normal things that are consistant with God's commandments.
