I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a Christian who subscribes to the LDS faith. I’ve been married for over nineteen years to a wonderful woman who juggles an incredible amount of responsibilities including home, family, friends, and the duties of a licensed attorney who works in the Court system. We were blessed with one boy who has the energy, interests, and ability to make the messes of the larger family of which we’d envisioned and desired.

I’ve worked in the technology field, essentially for the same organization, since graduating college. I’m an outdoor enthusiast who finds the most enjoyment in activities that require significant effort, energy, strength and endurance. For example, I’ve completed approximately forty hikes into the Grand Canyon including a number of one day “rim-to-rim” hikes that begin on one side of the canyon and end up to 24 miles later on the other side of it. This is the type of adventure that becomes fun about one week later after the pain is forgotten and blisters healed. I’m also an ATV and dirt bike enthusiast with my most favorite playground being the notorious Imperial Sand Dune recreation area that boarders Arizona, California, and Mexico.

I appreciate my Christian friends and any faith that provides individuals a moral compass based on Christian values.

Like a correctly balanced wheel, I strive for balance in life between work, family, friends, faith and self. I like to think that my “wheels” spin fast by my efforts to get the most out of all these areas.

Why I am a Mormon

I initially became a Mormon growing up in a Mormon household. However, everyone has to make such a decision for themselves. The specific point it time that happens for someone who grows up in the LDS church can be to identify. This I know: one doesn’t dedicate the time, money, and energy required of serving a two-year mission for the LDS church without having made that decision. Therefore, for me, that happened sometime prior to the age of nineteen.

I remain a Mormon because I believe in the faith. Further, I believe that it provides me and my family the best chance for happiness in this life. As a major added bonus, I believe the faith provides for the opportunity for that same happiness throughout eternity.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by espousing Christian, specifically LDS Christian, values. Most of the time, I try to do that while drawing little to no (preferably) attention to myself as an individual. I also have a very visible side that includes service in the church and speaking in detail about the faith with a number of friends who are of other faiths.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

I really can't speak to what all Mormon women are like, but I can speak to what my wife, who is Mormon, is like. My wife is a wonderful mother and selfless person who serves her family, friends, and others with no expectation of anything in return. She is an educated woman and is a licensed attorney who worked in private practice for many years before joining public service. Unlike many women of any faith, she is able to manage all aspects of her and her family's life with incredible organization and efficiency. I've never thought of her as anything other than an equal in our family or as someone of whom it is very important for me to ensure is treated well, respected, appreciated, and loved. I know she contributes more to our household duties than do I. However, she is aware I do everything possible with the time available to contribute to at least a reasonable extent. I appreciate that she accepts this as sufficient contributions enough to not make me feel bad about my lesser contributions.

Husband and wife in a marriage are meant to be equal, partners. The husband is the head of the household and is responsible for the temporal welfare of his family. His role is to support his wife. The wife is also to support her husband and to nurture her family both spiritually and emotionally. Husband and wife are meant to work side by side in providing a safe haven from the world for their family. Their roles are different, but equally important and essential to building the family and the community.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Live it. If you can commit to yourself and God to give all you have to discovering for yourself if the church is true through living the principles taught and asking God, in the name of Christ, to reveal the truth to you, I can give you my personal witness you will feel in your heart the comforting reassurance that you have found the truth.
