Hi, I'm Mark
I love spending time with my family and playing basketball. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I love playing and watching all kinds of sports. I am an LA Lakers fan for life. I am one of the few Canadians who can't skate to save his life. I am the youngest of 8 children. I am 20 years old and am currently serving a full-time mission for the church, serving in the Canada Vancouver Mission.
Why I am a Mormon
I was raised in the church my entire life, but there comes a time when you have to start doing things for yourself. So I decided that i needed to find out for myself that the church was true. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed. I prayed with faith, with a sincere heart, and with real intent. I needed to know. My Heavenly Father blessed me with an answer, by the power of the Holy Ghost that it was true, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's Church on the Earth today. This single experience has changed my life, since then i have had countless more witnesses of the truthfulness of this gospel.
When I keep the commandments of God, when i read my scriptures daily, and when i do whats right i have so much joy. The amount of happiness that i receive from doing what God wants me to is incredible. I'm a Mormon because i know that this church holds the Priesthood authority of God and I know that it is led by a true prophet, Thomas S. Monson. I know that on a bright spring morning in 1820 Joseph Smith prayed, and did indeed see God the Father and Jesus Christ. I know that anyone who wants to know if this is true can do as I did, pray. If they pray, with a sincere heart, with real intent to act on the answer they receive, that they will get an answer. They will know just as i know that it is true!
Personal Stories
Could you talk about your baptism?
My baptism was a very special experience. I was baptized in Dawson City, Yukon. Its very far up north, because thats where Kevin, my brother-in-law lived and he was the one who was baptizing me. In Dawson City there is no church building, and the closest one was 5 hours away! So we had to do some searching for a place for me to be baptized. We were fishing one day in the Klondike River, and we found the calmest bend in the river. It was by far the best place for us to do the baptism.
Even though it was summertime in the Yukon, the water was far from warm. It was absolutely freezing! Kevin and I walked out into the water, immediately after i was immersed under the water I had the warmest feeling inside. Regardless of the temperature of the water i could feel my Heavenly Fathers love burning in my heart. Moments later my dad conferred the Gift of the Holy Ghost upon me, while i was sitting on a tree stump near by. The spirit that was there was so powerful. I know that God was smiling down at me for making the decision to follow his plan for us.
This experience has shaped my life, my baptism was my first step in becoming a disciple of Christ. Since that day i have done all that i could to live up to the covenant i made. I am so glad I was baptized, I know that by following Christ's example that day I was brought closer to my Father in heaven and i wouldn't change that for the world.
How I live my faith
I try to live my faith in everything that i think, say and do. I try to live my life in a way that people will recognize that I'm different. That I don't swear, that i don't drink, that I'm a kind person. I always want people to be able to see Christ in the way I live my life.
I am currently serving a two year mission for the church, in which i share the gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible! I want everyone around me to know that I am a disciple of Christ, and that he is not just my Savior, but their's as well!
