Chat With a Mormon Online
I'm a high school graduate from Syracuse, Utah who loves to be involved. In school I was heavily involved with the National Forensics League or more commonly known as your average debate team and I was part of the event called Mock Congress. It was loads of fun and very educational to learn how Congress really works. I learned to have no fear when speaking in front of people and how to organize my thoughts. Being with friends is one of my more favorite things. I love to socialize, to laugh, and to have a great time. After I finish my full-time mission in the Texas Houston South Mission I hope to attend college, but I'm CLUELESS as to what I want to study. I'm currently leaning towards working with other people's money, but we'll see. I'm passionate about how we can improve the human condition by improving ourselves first, I think that this is why I am so involved with the comings and goings on the local and national scenes. I probably sound like a geek so far and it's going to most likely get worse, but I love to read! Each time I pick up a book it's like I see a movie in my head as I read. Right now since I'm a missionary and we read the scriptures so much it's working out pretty good. I'm the second of four children. I have an older brother who is awesome and two younger sisters whom I love to death. We're no where near perfect, but I figure we get along well enough. (Don't tell them I said that!)
Why am I a Mormon? Because I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and wouldn't lead me astray, the Spirit testifies of truth, not falsehoods. I've received a witness by the Holy Ghost that this is the Church that Jesus Christ has personally restored to the earth today through the prophet Joseph Smith. I receive that witness again and again as I live what is taught by the Prophet of God on the earth today, Thomas S. Monson.
Follow the commandments of Jesus Christ. There's really nothing more to be said there. By loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves we can have greater harmony in the home. Praying together as a family, reading the scriptures God has given us, and attending church can bring the Holy Spirit into our homes. I feel that if Jesus Christ was the focus in every home, practically every single issue we face today would be erased overnight. Now of course it can be very difficult to overnight cultivate habits of praying, studying the scriptures, and attending church as a family, but as we work towards that goal I know that God cheers us on and blesses us as we improve.
Because I have the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life I have a desire to share it with not only my family and friends, but to also share it with everyone I know. It has brought me so much joy in my life that to share it I simply just include others in my life. If I felt the spirit strongly at church this past Sunday I'll mention it when I'm asked how my weekend went. Sharing the gospel is something so easy once it becomes part of who you are, because then you're just being yourself.
I am actually serving a mission right now! Mormons serve missions because God asks them to. I actually knelt in prayer and asked God if I should talk to my Bishop, the leader of a local congregation, and start the process of preparing to serve a full-time 2 year mission. The answer I received was no large manifestation, I knew that I should serve a mission because I felt the Spirit in that prayer and many other times when others testified about how they were blessed because of serving a mission. Young men are expected to serve missions but I never felt forced or compelled to make this decision. I made it entirely on my own and because of that decision my faith in Jesus Christ has gone to places that I never even knew existed, I will forever be blessed because of my decision to serve a mission.
The Restoration of the Gospel is a boon to a world that is lost in the hands of the Adversary. The hope that we can receive in our lives from knowing that Heavenly Father still communicates with man to lead and guide them by a living prophet on the earth today is one of the most comforting things. Heavenly Father wants us to return to live with Him again after this life and to be even as He is. The Restoration of the Gospel provides us with that precious priesthood authority that Jesus Himself was baptized with by John the Baptist. Because of the Restoration of the Gospel I know that my family is united for all eternity because my parents have been married in the "House of the Lord", or the temple. I know because of the Restoration of the Gospel that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and was chosen before this world was even created to be the Savior. All of this I have come to know because I have received a witness by the Holy Spirit which testifies of truth.
I live my faith by striving each day to become more like Jesus Christ in my thoughts, words, and actions. I live my faith by serving as a full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years and am doing my best to bring the light of the gospel to those who do not have it. Will I ever obtain perfection in this life? Nope, but it is eventually possible through the path that Jesus Christ has given us to return to live with our Father in Heaven so that we can be even as He is. Before my mission I was the leader of my young men youth group from ages 16-18. I helped organize activities and do my best to be an example to my peers and those younger than me. One of the greatest blessings of being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that there are countless of opportunities to serve. Nobody gets paid in the Church but there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of service hours performed in the Church every year. It's a privilege to be part of something where I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that this is where God wants me to be and that anybody if they are willing to open their hearts and their minds can have the same exact knowledge.
