Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the Church. From the start, I felt that this was the true Church. As my knowledge of the Gospel grew, my feelings became a certainty. Something I knew. That Jesus Christ was my savior, and that I wanted to live up to his expectations of me.

How I live my faith

I struggle as we all do, to do what is right always. I'm grateful for the chance to repent and strive to do better knowing that my savior is forgiving and is always there to help me do better. I try to live everyday in ways that will make those who don't know my savior, Jesus Christ, want to get to know him better.

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

I am grateful to know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If Jesus himself had need to be baptized by someone who had been ordained with the Priesthood, then I know it is important to have that same priesthood here on Earth today. Show more Show less

If baptism is the gateway to Heaven, then the baptizer is a border agent. Would you want any old person who claims to know how it's done to just start letting whoever wants to into your country? Why do you insist they carry a badge and wear a uniform, and have an ID which proves they are legitimate representatives of the government? It's the same way with God's rituals. All over the scriptures, whenever there's a ritual performed it was performed by a duly authorized representative. Doesn't it just make sense that if something essential for our salvation would be required, that it should need to be done God's way, by God's authorized representatives? Acts 19:1-6 even shows a time when the authority of the baptizer was in doubt, and Paul re-did the baptisms for good measure. With all the confusion that comes from competing people claiming to speak for God, or claiming to know His will in this matter or that, I'm glad Mormons teach about authority. There's so much more clarity about who we should listen to, and who might be perfectly well-intentioned, but who really shouldn't be listened to because they're not authorized. Show more Show less

There are doctrinal answers to why we believe we need a Savior to redeem us from the Fall of Adam and to return us to our Father in Heaven that you'll probably come across here. But let me tell you why I need a Savior personally and what He does for me. Christ suffered personally for my pains, sorrows, and sins so that if I ask Him too, He can take them from me. I have been the victim of abuse in my life, and yet through Him I have been able to lay it all at His feet, freely forgive, feel peace, find love, and understand how important negative life experiences can be in teaching us humility. Daily He takes my pain and replaces it with pure love so that I am no longer a victim, but a victor. I need a Savior because He knows me, and through him my flaws become strengths and my pain becomes peace. Show more Show less
