Scott: south africa, BYU, rugby, writing, missionary, florida jacksonville, Mormon.

Hi, I'm Scott

South African born, lived in Utah and currently in Florida. I'm a full-time missionary and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in South Africa. When I was 14, we all moved to Utah. I played football and rugby in high school and attended a year of BYU before going to serve the Lord in the Florida Jacksonville Mission. I love just jamming out on my guitar. I'm also an avid reader and writer. I developed my passion for writing at a young age, just doing short stories. I took that up a level and started to write songs and novels. I learned to love books at a young age and have always loved to just chill out with a good book. As a result, I love the Book of Mormon and the message that it contains. The Book of Mormon is a work of literary genius and is probably the greatest book even written. There is no way that it could have been written by men. It has to be of God.

Why I am a Mormon

I've grown up in the church, but I've always gone off of what my parents said. However, I started to have some doubts until one day, I was at a youth activity with my cousin and some friends, where we listened to an apostle of the Lord talk about the divinity of the Book of Mormon. The Holy Ghost witnessed to me that this was a man of God and that everything he said was true.

Personal Stories

Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.

Joseph Smith was an incredible man! Even though we don't worship him, we love and respect him for all he did to restore the church. Joseph Smith was truly a prophet just as much as Moses or Noah. His teachings and his bringing forth of the Book of Mormon have truly affected my life and the life of my family in incredible ways. He was truly a man of God, and loved his Savior with all his heart. I don't know where I'd be without Joseph Smith and the effect he had on my family. He restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no way that a man with a third-grade education level could translate the Book of Mormon in 11 weeks. He would have had to create a new civilization, create a book that doesn't contradict the Bible and use actual Hebrew poetry forms and cultures. For an uneducated farm boy in the 1820's? I don't think so! He was inspired of God! There is no other way!

Why do Mormons go on missions?

We go on missions to spread this gospel to all men! We invite everyone to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. I have experienced these things in my life and I want to share it with the world. I was called to serve the people in Florida and Georgia, and there's nothing else I would rather be doing. I have a cousin who was recently called to serve in the Maryland Baltimore Mission, where he will serve the Lord as well. We are now also brothers in God, spreading the gospel to those who don't know this amazing message!

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

In the Book of Mormon, there is king named Benjamin. He gave us an incredible promise about making right choices. In Mosiah 2:41 (Book of Mormon page 151) he says, "I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness." When we follow the commandments, we are blessed, so we want to make some more right choices so that we can have more blessings. It's as simple as that!

How I live my faith

I am living my faith by serving a mission for the Lord. As a full-time missionary in the Florida Jacksonville Mission, I teach the gospel to people who don't have this incredible gift in their lives. I teach people about the restored church and the Book of Mormon because I know that it will bless their lives and the lives of their families.
