Hi, I'm Scot
I'm an Engineer. I play on a tennis team and golf with friends. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I am an engineer by profession. I married my wife in 2003 and we have adopted three children, two as infants that were born in Texas while I was in graduate school there and one as a year and half year old who was born in Korea. I play tennis and golf and mountain bike.
Why I am a Mormon
Although I grew up a Mormon, my mother joined the church when she was 18 and my paternal grandfather joined the church when he was 50. When I was a teenager, I wanted to decide if I would continue in this faith or choose another path. Almost all of my friends attended different churches. I attended some of their services and learned more about their religions and faith. I found much good and much truth, but I have only felt a completeness by attending this church and learning all the doctrines there. I read the scriptures and prayed and felt good about everything. I am a logical person and the doctrine made sense to me, answering the questions I had about who I was, why I was here on earth, and how Jesus Christ could be a part of my life. I know that Jesus Christ is at the head of my Church, that he guides it through prophets and revelation, and I have received personal revelation and inspiration from the Holy Ghost to guide me in my life and all the big decisions I have made. I constantly have to reaffirm that faith and commitment as I experience life. There have been many good times and many hard times, but looking to my Father in Heaven has helped me understand that I am his son and there is a purpose for me to learn and grow and be the best me that I can be.
Personal Stories
How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?
We have found that regular time together has helped our relationships in our home. We spend time doing fun activities at and outside the home. We go on fun vacations to see family or just spend time together. We go camping. We read scriptures and books and pray together. We eat most of our meals together. We find common interests that we can do together.
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
I do family history work because I am interested in my ancestors and what they went through. One would hope that each generation could be a little more comfortable, a little more educated, a little more successful than the last. They are my heritage. They are where I came from. I can learn from them. I can also give them the opportunity for accepting the gospel by doing temple work for them. If they choose to accept it, then it has been done for them. Genealogy helps ground me in my roots and remember sacrifices made so that I could be where I am today.
How I live my faith
I have had many opportunities to serve at church and help out. Everything I have done has been voluntary and has helped me to grow and hopefully help others. I have sung in choirs and played piano and organ. I have taught youth classes and planned and participated in activities with the teenage boys. I had a fun time coaching young men playing basketball and camping with them through Boy Scouts. I helped the youth plan, write, produce, and perform a musical in just one weekend. I have worked with the men in the congregation to help others in need, visit the sick, take care of the church, pick weeds at church farms, and many other activities. I regularly visit families to make sure they are doing well and help them out when they are in need.
